There are always varying qualities of April Fool's jokes on display each year, and what CD Projekt Red has done this time around certainly lands on the premium end.
It's pitching a horse-based controller add-on that ensures Roach always sticks to the road when you're riding her in The Witcher 3. It's codenamed Project R.O.A.C.H. (Ride On A Controller Horse).
"The controller that is also... a hobby horse!" the trailer voiceover excitedly confirms.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba claims he had the idea for the controller a decade ago, whilst doing motion capture for The Witcher 3 before its launch. "We took the prototype into a mo-cap studio and made sure the horse would follow your every step. After countless iterations, we've made enormous progress."
"Now, thanks to precise motion tracking, Roach will never stray from the path like she used to." Sebastian is absolutely proud of this one!
You'll never be able to actually buy the horse controller, but like the Pragmata trailer from earlier today, it's an example of game developers putting a bit of effort and fun into their April Fool's gags. Now, how about that new expansion for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red?

And here I thought that the long-awaited new Witcher 3 DLC was going to be their April fool's joke. 😅
Announcing a new expansion for a decade-old game, still can't wrap my head around it.
This one’s fun!
IGN also did one with a AI infused PlayStation dual sense controller. Obviously not real but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a few years away.
Love it. Would be even funnier if this was the rumoured Witcher 3 DLC all along.
@Fido didn't Diablo 2 get a new class?
We live in wild times
@Fido Aye. I would much prefer another Cyberpunk DLC. I do wonder how relevant the Witcher is in 2026.
CDPR did an April's fools vid about Roach 10 years ago (some clips in this vid). A few weeks before Blood & Wine was revealed.
