When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was officially announced last week, one surprising bullet point was the addition of full cross platform play support. A first for the franchise, players on any format will be able to duke it out in the game's multiplayer. We now know that this will also include PlayStation 4. A report from Forbes claims as much, and it's backed up by an Infinity Ward producer on Twitter.
A little more detail was also shared on just how the cross-play functionality will work. A level playing field is important when it comes to competitive games, and it sounds like Infinity Ward is taking steps to keep things even. Naturally, those playing on PC will more than likely be using a mouse and keyboard, giving them an advantage over players using a controller. However, much like Fortnite, cross-play will be based on input, meaning you'll only play with and against people using the same control method. This means no one will be at a disadvantage.
So, not only will PS4 players be able to get in on the cross-play action, they won't need to fear PC users dominating with their mouse and keyboard setups. It's all sounding pretty positive. Are you pleased to hear about cross-play in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Play nice together in the comments below.

So what if you plug in a controller to get grouped with controller people, but switch to mouse and keyboard mid-game? I guess the solution would be for the game to disable M/K once you've started the game with a controller, but it still seems weird.
Not that I really care about CoD multiplayer anymore
With Xbox opening up Keyboard and Mouse support, that makes sense to group them together with other KB&M users. As long as you can't swap input devices once the game starts or kick's you out if you try, I see no issues with it...
I am still not sold on this game. Waiting to hear how this is going to turn into a pay to win game
It will be entertaining to see what excuse the PCMR nuggets come out with if they start getting owned by console gamers using the same input device.
Cross-play suck, I don't want to play with a PC hacker on the console.
If you want to play with a PC player, then buy a PC version, Jesus.
well to be honest this is the kind of game Cross Play would be good for
i wonder how many people will do PS4 vs XB1 matches?
@Paranoimia
You will not see PCMR players on your console screen in multiplayer since they will be playing on separate servers, using keyboard and mouse. You will see more casual PC players using the controller and they are likely to get owned since 1) they are the casual players and 2) probably do not have as much experience using the controller as console players (on PC you can usually choose and people sometimes use controller, sometimes keyboard and mouse).
Unfortunately for me I see many more issues than input control (not to mention there are already hacks that allow you to play m&k but think your using controller with aim assist). For instance on pc you have a field of view slider which is a massive advantage. Also some pc run the fame at 120 fps which in a competitive twitch shooter is an enormous advantage. Also currently the pc version of black ops 4 has hacks whereas currently neither the ps4 or xbox 1 version have been hacked yet.
I'm happy for cross play but would love a option to opt out. I enjoy the walled garden of the ps4 and what that brings in consistent gaming and fairness
@Yattaman Note I didn't say 'controller', I said 'same input device'.
Since they're building in cross-platform play and grouping by controller type, they may well enable KB&M support on consoles since both platforms support them.
That’s a massive relief. I’m bloody sick of playing Overwatch and getting slaughtered by mouse users as Widow or Hanzo because they have a massive advantage. It’s good some devs recognise this as a problem.
you can trick the system into thinking you're using a controller on PC, this will be a disaster
