We're big fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt here at Push Square Towers, but arguably some of its best content came later down the line. The base game is fantastic, but the DLC released by CD Projekt RED is outstanding too. The duo of expansions dwarf some full blown games on PlayStation 4, and they both have great additional stories, locations, and characters. When it comes to DLC, this is one studio that knows what it's doing.
While talk of DLC long before a game is even out would usually be a bad thing, the idea that Cyberpunk 2077 will be receiving similar treatment is pretty darned exciting. UI Coordinator Alvin Liu, speaking with Prima Games, hints that the studio will be expanding the base game after launch, although he doesn't go into any real detail. "We want to make sure everything's complete, but we also want to build open worlds," he said. "I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we're going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077."
Liu also points out that CD Projekt won't be cutting anything from the main experience to sell back to us later. "We're not withholding content, we're not withholding story for the future to try to, you know, monetize it or sell it in pieces or anything like that. You're going to get the whole, full value game here."
With the excellent work the Polish developer has done with The Witcher 3's expansions, we think it deserves our trust on this one. But best not to get too ahead of ourselves; Cyberpunk 2077 isn't even out until April next year.

Here's hoping for some more quality original characters like Gaunter O'Dimm and the von Everic brothers. Hearts Of Stone was superb.
Bethesda studio. Kind when downhill since skyrim if you ask. Me fall out 4 was decent. But not anything as close to oblivion or skyrim..
Hopefully CD Red don't change
Trio of expansions? There were only two, right?
@Flurpsel Fixed. I don't know why, but I had it in my head that there were three
So if you buy the base game,the future dlc is free or no?
@hulkie It won't be free.
Hopefully DLCs will be like the Blood and Wine. Heart of stone wasn't quite as good, but still above the average DLC for other games.
The Witcher 3 was a great example of how to do 'Story' based DLC. Its relatively easy to consider MP based DLC as you can add new Maps with relative ease but to create new 'story' is not at all easy - especially in an open world RPG where we also expect meaningful side quests, new gear to collect, etc etc.
The first DLC was great but it was also built around areas we already had spent a LOT of time in. In terms of actual 'content', it was great, the story was good too and, as this article has said, offered more than most new games offer but the 2nd, well that was seriously impressive. It added a complete and rather large new area and it wasn't just 'open' lands but towns and a rather stunning and large city too. Its no wonder people feel like this is better than a LOT of complete full price AAA games on its own - certainly didn'r feel like a cash grab but something meaningful that also offered 'closure' on the Geralt Witcher series.
The Witcher 3 was a game I bought on both PS4 and Xbox - inc both DLC packs on each system too. Its a game that I completely finished every aspect of (apart from gwent, fist fights and horse races), all contracts, all side quests etc on both systems too racking up 100's of hours on each platform.
I have no doubt that CDPR would offer meaningful and great value DLC content on Cyberpunk too. I would certainly buy a season pass for it and CDPR have a proven track record and excellent ethos.
Focus on releasing a good game first, then think about the DLC.
@Salmonella so you want to wait an other 7 yeas for the dlc´s
It sounds as though CD Projekt Red is applying the same design philosophy to Cyberpunk that they held for The Witcher 3, which can only be viewed as good news given the quality of The Wild Hunt and its subsequent expansions. This really looks to be an amazing experience.
@Neolit They made a great game but i still will wait for a review.
Hopefully they will still add the free tiny bits of dlc like they did with The Witcher 3. Some of the quests added were some of the best in the game.
Now that's the way to do DLC. I'm not keen on DLC generally, but I can make exceptions for large expansions that don't feel like they were cut from the main game.
@BAMozzy But you didn't get the Platinum though. Witcher 3 has some of those boring trophies like: use Ard to blow enemies off an edge, do this 10 times...tsk.
@TheArt I don't play games just to get a Platinum - that may explain why I only have 3 but have finished multiple games, completed the campaign and side quests to 100% etc.
As far as I am concerned, I couldn't care less if some trophies are not to your playstyle (10 Ard kills by blowing people of an edge isn't a 'bad' trophy considering the amount of time and enemies there are over the course of a 'full' playthrough) I also didn't get the trophy for collecting EVERY Gwent card either because I don't really enjoy playing Gwent. I also never got the Uncharted Speed run trophies either because I don't enjoy 'rushing' through a game - but I have got the ones for EVERY treasure...
Trophies are there for you if you really want to, like having an optional challenge in the game (optional being the right word) that would reward you with a new outfit or camo - now its just a trophy. A game is FINISHED when I decide - not when I have a Platinum. Having a trophy like get 10 headshots in a row, kill enemies by using ard to blow then of an edge etc makes NO difference to the story, the game-play etc and are totally OPTIONAL. Having a Platinum doesn't change whether a game is 'finished' or not - especially not with subsequent new additions, new trophies etc - Beat the game on New Game + Ultra difficulty. I also don't go for trophies that require a 2nd or even 3rd Play through such as beat it on NG+, beat it on a newly unlocked difficulty setting etc - none of that 'adds' to the Story but doesn't mean I haven't 'finished' the game to its conclusion...
@BAMozzy

That paragraph read like you had the Platinum, I was curious to know because it's quite a chore. Not saying you had to have the plat or you didn't play it thoroughly.
If the, err, -cough- "mainstream" gaming sites have their way, this "racist, sexist, transphobic, pile of sh*t" will never see the light of day in its current form. 🤣
@TheArt I clearly state that I didn't play Gwent, Horse Races and Fist Fights - and each of these had 'trophies' associated with them - It doesn't mean that I didn't play through the games right through to the end of the story, completing every (other - not related to the things I already mentioned) Side Quest, Contract etc completing all the treasure hunt (for the blueprints of the various Armour and Swords) - and the same for both DLC packs too.
Its not like I only did parts of the side quests, didn't get to the 'end' of each Side Quest or didn't do all the Contracts and Treasure hunts. Even if I had completed the side quests for the 3 (gwent, racing, fist fights), that could still mean I didn't get 'every' trophy because of things like the Ard trophy (although I think I did get in either my Xbox or PS4 - maybe even in both) because that doesn't mean that the story etc isn't finished. Another example is the Tomb Raider games where the campaign states that I have completed every area, every quest, every tomb and the story to 100% (as it says its completed to 100% in my save file) doesn't mean I have the Platinum for that because of trophies that require you to pull 10 enemies off a cliff using the rope bow for example - It still doesn't mean the game isn't finished to 100%!
@NintendoFan4Lyf you are missing out. They are fantastic and very fun
I have honestly never played any of The Witcher 3's DLC despite owning it all, so maybe this is a good time to dive into it and see what all the fuss is about before Cyberpunk comes out.
@BAMozzy I really just wanted to know if you had the plat or not lol
@TheArt Fair enough - Very few games (only 3) have I actually got the platinum for and, at least 2 of them have been within 7days of release (H:ZD & GoW - both recent releases) but generally, I really don't bother...
With my backlog, I probably wait a few years to get the complete edition for PS5.
