Top-tier Sonic character Shadow the Hedgehog will be playable in Sonic Forces as part of an add-on pack available with the Digital Bonus Edition of the game. Word comes way of an errant listing on the Xbox Store, but we assume it’ll apply to the PlayStation 4 version, too. SEGA’s yet to comment on the leak, but we suspect it’ll pipe up soon.
“Get Episode Shadow to uncover the untold story of the new villain, Infinite, and rediscover three updated stages playing as Shadow," reads the blurb. "Plus, play as Shadow in over 10 Modern Sonic based stages.” It’s pretty cool that you’ll be able to use the edgelord icon in the stages from the main game – adds a bit of replayability, we guess.
The digital bonus edition also comes with Persona 5 costumes, as well as a bunch of classic SEGA skins inspired by titles like NiGHTS into Dreams and Super Monkey Ball. Is anyone fussed about playing as Shadow, though? Really?
Update: SEGA's confirmed that the Shadow the Hedgehog DLC pack will be free to download for everyone, so chalk this up as an added bonus if you're planning to purchase the game.

"Shadow the Hedgehog is a super underrated game."
Said me and literally no one else ever.
Edgelord the hedgehog
Seems like he will play like Modern Sonic, logically.
And....this is neat. A little backstory to what the hell Shadow is doing working with Eggman under Infinite.
And yeah, I'm down to play as Shadow. 2nd most popular character in the franchise despite only being planned for one game, probably popular for a reason. His stark contrast and matching of Sonic is probably a reason, alongside the popularity of Metal Sonic. Both the Classic and Modern rival characters.
@BLP_Software I personally can't wait to learn why Shadow is working with Eggman under Infinite. It's been keeping me up at night, and I just have to know why, y'know?
@get2sammyb Well, to be fair, its a complete 180 to his past characterisation in the PS2 era. So its an interesting development. It probably wont be deep, but its nice to see them do things with the characters other than being there.
You know, which is what happened from 2007 onwards (Thanks Sonic 06)
@Enuo i liked it
Meh.
That's all I can really say.
I think I'm one of the only few people left who enjoyed playing as multiple characters in Adventure. I loved Knuckle's treasure hunter levels in both 1 & 2.
And it's been confirmed he is like Modern Sonic with a kickass Homing Attack and a remix of Supporting Me from SA2, complete with gameplay footage @get2sammyb
Of course he will be. Why wouldn't he be?
I think part of the charm of these games is how seriously they take themselves despite how goofy they are. I'm down for playing as Shadow.
@Cassetticons I totally agree, despite 2 making the treasure hunt stages worse. I hope they do an adventure 3 some day and they could incorporate like a Chao app when you're away from the game lol
Seems to be a free DLC for anyone who purchases the game ...not complaining.
Updated.
"Episode Shadow"
Somebody needs to make 'That's it! I've created a new recipe." meme using Shadow. When's the FFXV Sonic Forces carnival?
Here's how to report on a news story without adding PushSquare's usual bias, by the way: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/09/shadow_to_be_playable_in_free_episode_shadow_dlc_for_sonic_forces
@RainbowGazelle I don't usually mind the bias but when you see them act sarcastic with a game like this and then see them act unironically excited for AAA garbage like Detroit or Days Gone you can't help but laugh.
@PotatoTheG But think of the emotions. David Cage will be the next Spielberg, just wait.
I'm not really a Shadow fan, but some of the bile he gets is kinda unfair. His self titled game was trash. Even Sonic fans agree on that. Unfortunately it's defined the character ever since. He wasn't even much of an edgelord in his debut, he was more cocky if anything.
I'll be happy as long as Shadow can be like he was years ago. No guns, no vehicles, just a more powerful variation of Sonic.
@get2sammyb @rjejr literally came over to PS after reading NL's story just to see if anyone had made FFXV puns lol
The first thing I thought when I saw the title was "woah, so Assassin's Creed first and then this?".
Let's be honest, knowing the joke FFXV has been for the last 10+ years and its DLC naming conventions, I wouldn't even been that surprised if it really happened, especially after they announced that AC cross-over nonsense.
@clvr I came over after reading it in NL too, and there weren't enough FFXV comments so I had to make one. The "Episode Shadow" did get my attention. "That's It, I've created a new recipe" is the new "Now it's Reyn time" in our house.
@rjejr ahahahah yeah I came here thinking I'd find some good ones but I was a tad underwhelmed when I saw no mention of that in the article nor the comments (apart from yours of course), so I felt compelled to contribute
