Bandai Namco has a new action role-playing game in the works, currently dubbed Code Vein. The project was teased a little while ago courtesy of the tagline "prepare to dine", leading many to ponder whether it's got anything to do with the Dark Souls series. Turns out it doesn't, but gameplay-wise, it certainly looks comparable.
The title's first gameplay footage looks a little rough around the edges, but all those "anime Dark Souls" comments that have been floating around the web seem like a reasonable description at this point. Combat definitely has some similarities, from the intimidating enemy designs to the need for precise dodge rolling. Needless to say, it's going to be interesting seeing how this one turns out. Oh, and it's targeting PlayStation 4 in 2018.

"Coming to Home Consoles in 2018"
So PS4 and Xbox One then. Gonna have to drop my PC prediction with that for now.
Also Darksiders 3 leaked. Get hyped
There's no hit response.
@get2sammyb Gotta have those touches to make a game feel good. That's how I felt when I saw getting crystals or breaking Nitro crates in the Crash trilogy had no oomph to it. It feels....naf.
Here, it's very early footage, clearly, 2018 release and all that. I'm more okay with that being a thing than off looking stuff mere months from release.
But hey, this a world where this can look bad but we can eat up a screenshot released for a game that wont come out for 3 more years because it's being led by Nomura.
Looks good, although I think it's more like freedom wars/toukiden rather than dark soul.
@BLP_Software I think it will be released on ps4 and steam, anime games doesn't sell much on xbox.
@wiiware This is an anime-styled game, not an anime game. Show me the anime license tagged to this one
But no, I'll stand by PS4 and Xbox One. They said home consoles, and that doesn't usually include PC, so for now I'll hang off on that one until clarified, logically.
I think it'll be on PS4, Switch, and PC.
@AlejandroMora Oh hellll yeahhh! You just made my day !!
I'm not a big God Eater fan so I wasn't too excited, but that trailer definitely had me hooked.
Looking forward to how it shapes out.
Looks decent but the combat doesn't seem to have a lot of weight compared to Dark Souls'. Hopefully they'll improve it.
And I'm just glad that the game takes a more serious tone compared to God Eater.
Looks like a more polished Nier Automata with less skimpy clothing.
Apart from the weird hit detection definitely digging this
@BLP_Software Anime style or anime games, it's the same. I think this game will skip xbox one.
@stevejcrow It's more like toukiden series or freedom wars. Nier automata is like bayonetta/metal gear rising/other platinum games.
@wiiware ...Anime style or anime games are the same?
Please, never get into the business of licensing anything. Just because it looks anime doesn't mean you can use an anime name.
@BLP_Software Sigh, don't be so pedantic man, I mean this kind of games just doesn't sell on xbox1. Anime style games? doesn't sell on xbox1. Anime games? doesn't sell on xbox1 too. Hell, even big japanese games like final fantasy xv only sold like 21% on xbox1 (79% on ps4).
If it's coming to xbox1, then great, xbox owners can play it too. But I don't think this game will come to xbox.
@wiiware I meant the destroyed world looked very similar to that of Nier, some of the destroyed buildings looked copy & pasted.
Not saying Nier's presentation was wholly original, just unfortunate timing that this is revealed so soon after.
The whole 'bloodlust' thing actually reminds me a lot more of Bloodborne than Dark Souls, but either way this looks potentially pretty cool! Definitely one to watch, but not sold just yet.
Works for me.
Looks cool.
