Behind closed doors at E3, God of War director Cory Barlog spilled a load of beans with regards to the fantastic looking PlayStation 4 exclusive, and thankfully, Level Up were there to absorb all the juicy information. According to the series veteran, Kratos' upcoming adventure won't be his last, hinting that Sony has further plans for the baldy brawler.
Given the heavy speculation that Kratos may retire from his duties as a kicker of arse, passing the mantle onto the young boy seen in the E3 2016 demo, many assumed that the new God of War would be the axe wielding maniac's final stand, but it looks like we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future.
Speaking of the boy, it also sounds like we won't be thrown into the youth's shoes during the game. Barlog apparently stated that the kid won't be playable - instead, Kratos will be able to give him commands, and he'll fend for himself in combat. We're definitely looking at a kind of Joel and Ellie set up, then.
Does this all sound good to you? Were you hoping to see Kratos get killed off halfway through? Don't say that to his face in the comments section below.

Sounds like spoilers, though.
im fine with this i mean you cant kill kratos in his return after how many years??
I'm sensing an Egyptian GoW game in the future.
Also, I wouldn't mind Kratos returning just as long as Kratos doesn't have the scumbag personality.
@SoulsBourne128 kratos is the best
Who wants to bet the boy gets killed off at some point early in the game fuelling Kratos' rage against the gods...
God of War director Cory Balrog...
That's all I see, every damned time.
@BAMozzy KRATOS SMASH!
The boy dies - confirmed.
@joeblogs I'd buy that deffo
I wonder if they will explain how Kratos survived GOW 3.
It's unfortunate that The Last of Us made that much of an impact.
I get pretty sick of playing these games with an AI partner running along with me. Barely got a moments peace in Uncharted 4. It's gunna suck having a kid tagging along. At least you could stick Ashleigh in a dumpster in Resi 4.

Lol
This sounds awful on so many levels and definitely not the God of War game I want to play. If they were going to make The Last of Us featuring Kratos and Son, I'd rather the series had stayed dormant. I'll wait until more news and gameplay demos but I'm not really that hyped given what I'm learning so far. If this game ends up the way it's looking right now, I hope Sony and Santa Monica are rightly taken to task. Not every game needs to follow the Naughty Dog template and frankly I'm disturbed by the trend and even moreso that nobody is calling it out. People kill Ubisoft for using the same open world structure in its games but Sony gets a pass? First of all, variety is good. Secondly, and most importantly, studios excel at different things. Naughty Dog has perfected its cinematic games and there isn't a need for other studios, forced by Sony or not, to be aping this. I hope this trend dies down extremely quickly. I should be thrilled to see Bend back but they too are creating a game that is even more unnecessary because ND's next game is probably going to be The Last of Us 2. The reason Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spider-Man and Gravity Rush 2 are much more interesting is because they offer something different from Sony's other exclusives. It's funny, people kill MS for having a 'dude bro' console and ignore something like ReCore but nothing is said about this, just because they like the Naughty Dog style? I don't know, it's just troublesome to me.
@Gamer83 For me it's a nice new thing the boring same stuff for 4 games is getting old anyway. Kratos was nothing more then a murdering maniac and had no depth in his personality whatsoever. What would have been his new reason in the 5th game? I enjoy the new way they are going.
Every piece of info that leaks gets me more and more pumped! People complaining about "The Last Of Us" similarities need to caallllllm down! Lol I can see already its going to have its own unique direction and still retain elements that has always made GOW fun. The one thing I haven't seen people mention much is that a good 30-40% of past GOW games involved semi-challenging platforming and climbing sections in between all the hack and slashing and puzzle solving. With this new camera perspective and direction it makes me wonder if that element has been cut back or at least done slightly different. Will Kratos still have a double jump ability etc? Hard to tell from what we've seen so far but just makes me that much more intrigued in where they're going and how it will all play out. That's just one announced exclusive of many to look forward to! Good times to be a PlayStation gamer!
