It's been a while since FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer have clashed on what feels like relatively equal ground, yet here we are, with many footy fans demanding that PES 2016 be recognised as this year's champion. Meanwhile, FIFA 16 enthusiasts are being quick to point out its various improvements over its predecessors.
It's like a big Sunday match between two teams that are competing for the top spot in the league, and let's be honest - it's pretty fun to watch all of the bickering surrounding the battle. Just like the clubs themselves, the games also have their supporters, but when opinions are divided, we're civilised enough to realise that going mental in a city centre, punching a horse, and getting arrested isn't the way to get your point across.
Instead, let's try breaking one of gaming's greatest rivalries down into a single handy poll. Which slice of virtual football is better this year? FIFA, or PES? Cast your vote, and then try not to cause a riot in the comments section below.

Keep on voting you PES lovers and spread the word: FIFAs trying to be the king, but the ace is back!
I was wondering that myself. I would like a game for the people that come in to play (as soccer is popular as heck here) and not sure which of the two. Reading reviews, it seems PES is doing better.
@Boerewors no its not. Get some decent licenses first and then we can talk turkey. Enjoy your 16 stadiums, Terrible version of ultimate team, weird off the ball defending and tiny players on a huge pitch. 9/10 is laughable pes is a 6 at best. FIFA isn't much better but at least I can play the premier league rather than watching North London vs Wearside in the English league.

As Rocket League has shown us sports games don't have to have licenses to be fun. As a matter a fact I think it's the reason why PES outshines FIFA: because they can't lean on easy sales to kids who just want to play Man U or R Madrid in their own stadium, they have to improve the game where it actually matters to stand out.
To each its own I guess and I'm not saying FIFA is rubbish as a game, it just has a different approach which I don't like in a game. Fun first, licenses later.
I'm buying Fifa I want PES but my mate's play Fifa so i'm getting that they are already miffed about me refusing to pick up The Taken King so I kind of have to buy Fifa but PES would be the best choice I think after reading review's and watching footage of both game's. This is my first football game for a few year's now so i'll still enjoy it immensley hopefully.
@xMEADx Dude be your own person, buy what you want not what others want you to buy...
Your 'friends' will realise the error of their ways when they see how good PES is!
@Dodoo hah thank's but i've played with these guy's a long time now it's all cool i'm willing to make the sacrafice! I'll get PES sooner or later when it's a little cheaper and subtly make the switch
@xMEADx Fair enough my man, maybe even your mates will eventually convert to PES anyway? You never know!
Have to agree. PES is fantastic this. Destroys FIFA in regards to game play. The only thing it lacks is FIFA's presentation. However it's nothing a few option files won't fix.
Really enjoying PES so far. Played both and FIFA has become a chore after four years of it. I simply fancied a change
The editing thing is no biggy, knocked up all the sides in an evening with proper kits. The best part of that is i can still enjoy it after the yearly cycle as can change things if required..
Not sure about the defending being weird, have noticed that you when you make other players press the ball, you need to fill the potential gaps which is what happens in real matches.
You can beat players with dribbling, you can play various styles of game and the side defends as a unit. Plus the AI actually tries to play risky passes in hope of creating an opening at times, which is refreshing to see, considering the ball retention is everything FIFA AI, even when it was losing...
I may change next year if EA do whats needed and re-craft their engine among other things.. Its a great game, but after several years of bitty updates, I wanted something different and PES offers that this year, plus its bloody fun...
There is something magical about leading your favourite team out at their own stadium, with realistic chants, TV style graphics and fantastic commentary- something that FIFA has nailed year on year.
However, the gameplay has become stagnant, and unless I want to play Virtual Stadium Tour 16 I'll take PES's gameplay any day. But please, Konami, sort out the amateur hour presentation for 17!
PES ekes it out for me. I prefer the presentation and licensing of FIFA, but PES' modes are much more fun and the gameplay feels better
@xMEADx since you play online I assume you have PS+, you don't need to own the game to play with them you can shareplay, it's what I do with my friends while I enjoy a game that I actually like and tolerate FIFA only when I play with them.

I can only hope EA hears the cries of the dissapointed gamers and rethinks their FIFA strategy; maybe a new engine and focus more on the joy of the sport. It would also help if they don't release a game every year. For all I care they can make the base game more expensive and give us $30 roster updates in the years we don't get a new game, but make sure we get a game that's worth picking up every other year.
@Boerewors Its not gonna happen. They sell more year on year. Pes 15 was lauded and its fun but you notice the deep cracks 3-5 weeks later. I believe most of us are a bit bored of the successful templated games from last gen your cods, fifas and ass creeds. They have become boring. Even fifa - I was bored last year but its still better than pes. As someone who has bought nearly every Konami football game since iss on the snes the games are worse now than ever.
I have stood by this point for a while now - Konami make no attempt to get the licenses we want and love doing it on the cheap. Why would anyone give that a 9/10. FIFA has up to date news, transfers, speculation, accurate stats, girls teams and better commentry. Pes has none of that and fails every year. I'm not a staunch Fifa supporter but I am a disappointed ex pes fan. You will see. The games havnt been available long enough to make a solid judgement and lets be honest not everyone who has voted has played both games.
It's simple. Off the field = FIFA. On the field = PES.
Now....what would we give for a bastar* child of these two? FIFA presentation and PES gameplay.
Won't happen, and I guess only FIFA can give us that due to licensing issues. PES will never get to that stage unfortunately (although it's a lot better this year ...even the commentary is bearable)...but most people are suckers for real stadiums/leagues etc etc.....I know I am.
Still, PES is by far the better game this year (it was last year too)
This year i got both, PES 2016 is better, but the ball in it feels like a ping-pong ball, not a football, but still they improved the game way more than fifa did this year.
So. I have been wrestiling with this for a while now.
The PES demo felt amazing and my mind was made up that instance. Then the full release comes out and suddenly I start regretting buying it.... did I make a mistake? Should I return the game? I was very close. But I have peresevered with it for now. It just enrages me, how different the game feels online. The AI shifts are so blatant, sometimes you can't defend and the amount of draws I have had is laughable.
I played my first FUT game on FIFA16 t'other day, I had the starting team made up of the free packs they give you (so not a very good team) but manager to scrape a 2 - 1 victory against a better side, but the point is the experience felt similar to the offline play (admittedly1 game isn't really a fair test).
I love PES, I do, I love the fact someone at the HQ has cast a phoenix down on the game. But the online is annoying me, I'm at the point where I would rather lose than take a draw. At least It's justifieable by the fact the opponent is simply better, not some BS AI momentum shift.
Rant over !
BTW my Friendly Lobby win rate is 100% - maybe it is just MYCLUB ?
@bman2112
Off the field? Its a football game, theres no such category. All the licences, Sky Sports presentation & commentary etc mean nothing if its no fun to play. The kids will lap it up, therefore it will sell. Its the sports equivalent of CoD, rinse & repeat every year.

@FaultyDroid
Yes, 'off the field'.... You know full well what I mean. Menus, real team names, stadiums, atmosphere, commentary, replays etc.
On the field it's how the game 'plays'. And it's hear that PES kicks fifa's arse (offline especially). My point was simply what if PES had all the glitz and glamour.....you know, the 'off the field' stuff 😁
1. Since when has almost everyone jumped on the PES bandwagon?
2. I like FIFA
Playin as Manchester Blue or North London zzz. FIFA all the way.
