It's obviously far too early to say whether or not Final Fantasy XV will deliver in the story department, but given the series' history - barring a couple of outliers - you'd at least expect a decent narrative filled with likeable characters. Someone who wants this to be the case more than anyone else is Hajime Tabata, the game's director. Speaking with Metro's GameCentral, Tabata states that "more than anything I really want people to say about XV that it had a great story."
Bold words, but at least it seems like the Final Fantasy veteran is taking things seriously. He continues: "So the way I look at implementing the story and telling the story through the game… that's the first priority really: getting it so the story feels good and it's a great experience to have."
Tabata goes on to say that his goal is to have a title that tells a memorable tale, or as he puts it, "my ultimate dream for this would be if people say, "It's such a great world and a great story that I don't want to see it end!" Of course, with the release's prolonged development, we're certain that'll be the case either way. After all, some of us have been waiting almost 10 years for this.
What do you think? Will Final Fantasy XV nail its narrative, or is it more likely to end up with a preposterous plot? Place your bets in the comments section below.

Tabata talking about his holidays, pulling the wool over square enix and earning £250k a year since 2006 in the process.
Hope the story is good cause the gameplay is crap.
@themcnoisy taken from an article dated 2014 titled "The Man Who Saved Final Fantasy XV":
I think the guy has done good work, considering he's been overseeing the HD release of type-0 and now FF7. Really, the game as it is has only been in development since 2012. He comes across as very likeable and genuine in interviews, too. People need to get over this delay, they probably would have cancelled it all together and released it as something else under a different name if it wernt a requirement it carry a number 15 in its title.
@kyleforrester87 if final fantasy 7 is anything like type o there will be riots in the streets and Shinra will cut the elecy.
@NaughtyOttsel22 I thought the gameplay was okay for an alpha build, but it needs serious work.
@themcnoisy ahh nowt wrong with type 0. It's a psp game, was never going to set the world alight. The combat is good though, best real time FF combat yet imo.
All I'm saying is that airship better be the best think since sliced bread (and at an affordable price) or I'm going to start kicking kittens.
jk, I don't kick kittens. (>_> )
p.s. I hope there's a beach scene with Noctis and his merry friends.
I really hope we see this come out next year... I've been hyped for this since the re-reveal back at E3 2013.
Nobody has any patience anymore. Good things come to those who wait. The best things come to those who clear a little backlog....
@kyleforrester87 I have a lot of time for Tabata, he seems to be the catalyst that's finally pushing things forward with FFXV as the steps forward they've taken since he got involved have been pretty big. It's particularly impressive when you consider that this is not just his main FF series debut, but it's also his first time producing a home console game rather than portable.
For what it's worth, I think Nomura's problem was simply that he was being pulled in too many directions at once. Just look at all the games he's been involved in over the last 10 years, the man is an absolute machine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_Nomura#Works. Tabata on the other hand isn't involved in all that much, which makes him a better fit for FFXV as it enables him to dedicate all his focus to it.
It's too early to say on most accounts. If anything I'd rather know very little about this until it's release. I'd love them to just come out at a press event and for the game to release five months after it. Don't piss about with all this teasing and talking, just do it and reveal it right before launch.
10 years has really been that long. I was in college then. I'm now married and have a son
I hope the game turns out good
@Ash_uk1 haha wow that really puts it into perspective! I hadn't thought about it before, but I was surprised just now to look it up and see that this game was originally announced about half a year before the PS3 had even released. Surely it's got to be one of the only games that has been in development during 3 console generations!
