DOOM PS4 PlayStation 4

Have we all recovered from Bethesda's laser-focused presser yet? Despite making its E3 2015 media briefing debut, the Zenimax-owned organisation knocked it out of the park with its presentation last night – and then proceeded to stamp awesome all over our faces. Fallout 4 may have been the highlight, but credit must go to DOOM, which – against all odds – looks awesome.

The game's not bogging itself down with a pretentious plot: your objective is to kill everything in sight. "The Union Aerospace Corporation's massive research facility on Mars is overwhelmed by fierce and powerful demons, and only one person stands between their world and ours," reads the blurb. "As the lone DOOM Marine, you've been activated to do one thing – kill them all."

With gunplay as good as this game's, it's an objective that we'll humbly accept. This is old-school in all of the right ways, with excellently paced combat bowls and no sign of regenerating health. You'll be able to use the title's weapons wheel to toggle between firearms – and yes, there are some brutal finishing moves for you to execute.

And that's not all: the title will feature a classic arena multiplayer-type mode, as well as a really in-depth level editor system which will allow you to create custom maps – or even entire modes. A real surprise highlight so far, then. The game's set to release on the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016, and we're sure that we'll be seeing much more of it in action soon.
