Borderlands 2's Golden Key Will Test Your Determination

As far as pre-order bonuses go, Borderlands 2’s mysterious Golden Key is absolutely genius. The super-secret unlocking device – doled out to Premiere Club members – will be capable of opening a single treasure chest in Sanctuary. That chest will house a selection of rare loot, scaled to the level of your character.
And that’s where it gets really clever. You might be tempted to open the chest early and scoop some ace loot drops as soon as possible, but if you do so, you’ll miss out on even better goodies when you reach the game’s level cap. As such, the Golden Key is just going to sit quietly, burning a hole in your pocket. Will you be able to wait things out – or will the temptation to use the key early eat you up inside? There’s a dissertation waiting to be written on this very subject.

If you open the chest before the level cap then your loot will be useless within a couple of hours of playing as you level up. I'm saving my key until the bitter end.
