Modern is the default and recommended playstyle in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. This mode of play means you will have infinite lives. When you die, you'll restart from the last checkpoint you reached, and you won't have to worry about running out of retries.

Retro

Retro is a slightly tougher playstyle in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. In this mode of play, you will have a limited number of lives. If you run out, it'll be game over, and you will have to restart the level from the beginning.

How Do You Swap Between Modern and Retro Playstyles in Crash Bandicoot 4?

When you first start the game, you'll be given the choice between Modern and Retro. However, if you'd like to try the other option later on, you can switch between Modern and Retro at any time by accessing the Gameplay Options menu.
