Topic: Should I buy a PS5 or PS4?

So, I have a feeling a lot of other people might be in the same boat as me, so I'll post on behalf of all of us.

I'm a gamer that's completely new to the Playstation scene. Aside from someone else's PSP I used, I've never owned a Playstation. Now, with the release of the PS5 and whatnot, it's a great time to jump into it. I eyed a few games, weighed whether I should buy one, and I decided yes. Now I just have to decide which one.

So, I'm on a pretty tight budget and I'm not entirely comfortable with spending half a thousand dollars on a games console. Not to mention I don't have a 4K TV. What are you folk's thoughts? Should I turn aside and buy a PS4, as all the games I've got my eye on are on both consoles (yay for backwards compatibility!) and the 4K has no value for me, or should I buck up and patiently save for a PS5?

Thanks so much!

I personally think a ps4 would be a poor investment right now. Sure it is cheaper but it won’t really last more than a year, maybe 2. PS5 is expensive, but will easily last 6+ years, and you’ll waste less time on loading screens. Faster framerate are nothing to ignore too.

I would suggest go for PS4 as there are some PS4 games not working well on PS5.
PS4 Slim is the cheapest choice and also consumed less Watt usage.
Mine is PS4 Slim also.

As much as I'm loving my PS5, I'd say you can't go wrong with the PS4. If you're not to bothered about having the newest tech then it's a great way to get into PlayStation. You'll have 7 years of exclusives to play and a lot of the PS5's heavy hitters are coming to PS4.

Excellent, thank y'all so much for your input so far! Haven't reached a decision yet, but all your thought will definitely help!

Also, think of it like this, by the time you're comfortable with dropping the asking price on a PS5, they might actually not be sold out all over the globe!

LOL, but true. Good point to consider.

Hm.

I would definitely try and save the extra $100-$200 it will take to buy whatever version of the PS5 you’re interested in. Depending on your situation, the system could be more available by then.

More importantly, you’re future proofing yourself for roughly the next 7+ years for $400-$500 instead of paying $300 now for a PS4 and then upgrading it to a PS5 in 2-3 years and paying another $400-$500 to do so.

If you buy a PS4, you’ll very likely be buying quite a few of the greatest hits of the system, which are in the PS Collection which is a welcome gift for buying a PS5. With PS+ subscriptions commonly $30/year online, you’ll more than make up the difference if you go for a PS5 and get the games through that, instead of individual purchases.

While still having the luxury of playing everything new that comes out.

Can't go wrong with ps4 and the library that's out there, but owning a ps4 for 7 years and been playing on ps5 since launch day it's a breath of fresh air with the speed system wide like load times, downloads and updates are night and day. Not to mention the noise difference if you don't use a headset

PS5. Why are you even considering it? PS4 will be pretty much obsolete in a year from now. If you can't afford it right now, just wait a little bit longer to save up. The digital edition is really affordable and it costs just 100 euros more than the ps4 slim (in my country at least).

I'd say at this point get the PS5.
The PS Plus collection is a great deal if you haven't played any PS4 games - pretty much worth the price difference if you're open to different games (all 20 are pretty great).
Also you probably won't need to upgrade for the next 6-7 years.
The PS4 is great and doesn't really feel that old apart from the slow store app but it will become obsolete in a couple years.
