How do this not have a thread? This game looks incredible. Check out this gameplay footage trailer:

This game is unbelievably gorgeous.

I will admit it does look gorgeous. I haven't played a Dragon Quest game in years honestly. Last one I played was Dragon Quest (Warrior) on the NES when I got it for free for subbing to Nintendo Power but I had no clue what I was doing in game. I do remember watching my friend play one on the PSONE back in the day when I went to his house, I think it was VII but other then that.

I did try the Dragon Warrior Heroes II demo the other day and really enjoyed that so I think I will be picking that up. I also have been following this game as well and I am interested in it but I am not sure if I will need to play the other DQ games in order to understand this game. Also isn't this game also coming out for the 3DS but going to have sprites instead?

my absolute most anticipated game. the only thing even remotely in the realm of this much hype for me is kingdom hearts 3. i fell in love with dragon quest viii on ps2, and this literally cannot come out over here soon enough.

Yeah this looks great. Finally a new mainline Dragon Quest game on a home console again!

It looks so good, like a much prettier and crisper Dragon Quest VIII. I'm really excited for this, hopefully a western release isn't far off.

So finally sat down and played this game on the Switch for a few hours today (I know this is the PS4 section but I don't feel the need to start a new thread since they are pretty much the same game) and I say I am in love with this game.

I have been putting the PS4 version off for this version and I am glad I did, so I can't compare it to the PS4 gameplay wise and graphic wise but it looks gorgeousness and plays well to me. My biggest little niggle is how he jumps granted I don't think jumping plays into this game compared to something like Mario Odyssey or a FPS but he just feels stiff and jumping straight up is so annoying. Other then that it plays very well. So far I haven't done to much just made it out of town and just wonder the country side before going to the big town then my Switch battery died.

Voice acting is great although I am not quite sure what's up with the British accents, but ok and I am kinda disappointed with the silent hero bit (I would think companies would be pass that) but other then that, as I said voice acting is great.

It seems to me there's crafting in this game which I like and the open world will keep me busy. I all probably the best RPG I have played since Octopath.

I will probably end up playing this game once in 3D and then in 2D mode.

But yeah going to be busy with this for awhile.

@Tasuki Played the demo earlier on the Switch, and I thought the same about the jumping and silent protagonist. Also a bit annoying you can't disable subtitles and it's not fully voice acted. I quite like all the different British accents, at least they are well done and you can tell they have put a lot of effort into getting them to sound right. It looks and sound amazing.

I stopped playing just as i was about to leave the first village as I will probably end up getting this for the PS4, I have one major reservation though is how you save. I generally hate not being able to save anywhere in large open games. In the demo you could only save in a church. IIRC I remember seeing that you can save at camps when out and about and the game auto saves when entering a new area and after cut scenes. What about when in dungeons? Can you save when in the middle of one or does it dump back at the begining if you quit the game?

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

@JohnnyShoulder I am not sure about dungeons since I have yet to do one. They might have like a statue in the middle of the longer ones I suppose.

I have been holding off on getting the PS4 version just cause, 1, games like this is easier for me to play on the Switch since I am not hogging the main TV and 2, the 2D mode. Perhaps I will pick this up down the road on the PS4 especially if the PS5 is backwards compatible as the rumors say it will be. But for now the Switch will suffice.

@JohnnyShoulder, you can only save in Churches (in towns), and at Goddess Statues (at camps in the overworld, and inside dungeons).

@RR529 @Tasuki @kyleforrester87 Cheers guys, I'll check out some ps4 gameplay and see if the music is that bad. I don't recall noticing it being paricually bad when I checked it out before. I can get this on this ps4 for about half price of the Switch version, the changes I've seen aren't worth the extra dollar for me.

It autosaves every time you enter a new area too.

Played a bit more tonight of the demo. I just arrived in the main city an I must say I am very impressed with the graphics especially in handheld mode. I spent most of the time just exploring the city before talking to the King. I can literally just spend hours exploring everything. I honestly cannot wait till this game gets released.

One question I have not quite sure if anyone can answer but occasionally I keep running into these little ghosts like characters in the main town. I tried talking to them and searching the area they were in but nothing. So does anyone have a clue?

@Tasuki I understand that they are to do with the end game, and that they have a bigger role on the 3DS version. Either way nothing to worry about for now.

I ended up spending around nine hours with the demo. I love the orchestral score. The forging mini-game is a good deal more fun than the alchemy pot in VIII. While it definitely looks better on the TV, this game holds up really well in handheld mode.

Looking forward to trying out the 2D mode as well at some point. Although I'll probably save any real time spent playing that mode for a second playthrough in the future.
