@Leetware1 as always, it is all about engagement. I find it pitiful, indeed, but I get it why Push Square ends up posting this kind of "news". Chances are a couple of these a month makes more revenue than everything else combined.
@Kingy sorry to keep answering your comments, you just make good points.
I think part of the problem, at least when it comes to the artstyle, graphics and animation, is that the studio just isn't that good when comes to it, which is fine, really. We all start somewhere before going to places.
What bothers me is that Sony knew that they could go as cheap as this and face little to no backlash, because this is the kind of game that only hardcore fans will buy, specially for that price, and they will defend it to the moon and back simply for it existing and being reasonably functional. This is just how fans work, just look at Pokemon.
@LogicStrikesAgain I get that, it is just that I feel like it is all part of the same cycle and comes from the same place.
People judging his objectivity is just an ad hominem disguised as a non-insult. No reviewer is objective, and it wouldn't matter how objective he is if he was praising the game. But since he is talking it down, you attack his credibility. Not quite his arguments, mind you, specially because most people won't even watch the video. His credibility, plain and simple.
Obviously not everyone who likes the game do so because they are fans, but at some point it doesn't even matter, because it just hard to scape the fanboy v. hater, toxic positivity v. negativity loop of the whole gaming/fandom culture. You either like it because you are stupidly attached to some work of fiction or you hate it because you are weirdly negatively attached to some work of fiction.
And then people like me and, I suppose, like you, who just dislike/like the game for a bunch of other reasons just get lost in translation. It is mostly circlejerking around us, for better or worse.
@LogicStrikesAgain I think it goes both ways. You scroll through this comment section and there is a lot of people just throwing personal attacks against Jaffe because he is saying something bad about something that they feel compelled to defend for whatever reason. It is just a byproduct of seeing the whole fandom culture. Ad hominem all over the place.
@Kingy I am not a fan of his opinions for a bunch of reasons, but something I appreciate about him is that he is consistent. You see him criticizing a bunch of random stuff in games and then you go back and play the GoW games that he was involved, and you actually see the game at least trying to not make the same "mistakes".
I find it sweet because even if I don't agree, or find it too harsh, the fact is that he has a design code that he believes in, despite popular taste or industry trends.
Not that he is the most coherent person in the world, all of us stumble here and there despite our best efforts, but the general attitude is a nice change of pace, compared to almost everyone else who pretty much changes their opinion based on how hyped a game is.
I get where you are coming from, but despite it being easy on the eyes, it is also very bland. The problem with Fortnite clones is that, similar to Fortnite, there is no artistic integrity nor consistency to the game. Fortnite is very obvious when it comes to this, to the point you don't even know what is it about anymore, but this games clearly suffers from it too. You have the dude from the Horizon games, but then you have a hip chick with a cropped and pink hair. Shocks me she doesn't have a piercing in the belly button.
People were moaning about Marathon, but it looks a gazillion times more interesting, in terms of artstyle, than this game. If I didn't know it was from Sony, I would've thought it is an AI generated clone from a random chinese company.

@Balaam_ thank god, I thought I was the only person disappointed with the look of the new Castlevania. Beyond disappointing.
Re: 'One of the Worst Decisions Ever Made': God of War Creator Tears 'Total Crap' 2D Title Apart
I hate that I agree with some of the things he says, specially about stopping over and over, and how dull it looks/feels.
Re: Hands On: God of War: Sons of Sparta Shows Real Promise with Lovely Pixel Art and Punchy Combat
@dark_knightmare2 this is the beauty of opinions. They are not objective statements, just how each one of us feel about something.
It looks rubbish to me, so I don't play it. It looks nice to you, so you play it. Everyone wins, yay.
Re: Hands On: God of War: Sons of Sparta Shows Real Promise with Lovely Pixel Art and Punchy Combat
@dark_knightmare2 let's agree to disagree, then. To me, it looks wonky as hell.
Re: Hands On: God of War: Sons of Sparta Shows Real Promise with Lovely Pixel Art and Punchy Combat
@Shinnok789 oh, somehow I missed it, sorry.
Character design and animation, specially, looks terrible. The backgrounds are serviceable, I guess, but how everything moves is just.. ugh.
It is wild to me how much praising it is getting despite looking so poorly.
Re: Hands On: God of War: Sons of Sparta Shows Real Promise with Lovely Pixel Art and Punchy Combat
I can't be the only one to be really disappointed by the graphics, right? I love pixel art, but this looks so muted and basic.
