The backlash is loud, but I'm not sure it's that large. It might seem that way in an algorithm-driven bubble, but elsewhere, it's just not that big of a deal.
When you have over 150M active players, the bulk are going to be casuals, and casuals don't care about physical discs. Of the top 10 most popular games on PS right now, half don't even have a physical edition, and none are a Sony 1st party title.
We might hate it, but pick a random PS5 anywhere right now, and it's more likely to be playing Fortnite and Roblox than anything else.
Obviously the hardware on both consoles can handle 4k/60, no question, but if they aren't optimized that has nothing to do with the box and everything to do with how the dev is writing the game. The PS5 won't struggle with it, but a game might if programmed lazily.

Re: These New Xbox Prices Are Truly Terrifying for PS6
"There’s a possibility Sony’s purchasing power may allow it to attain the required parts cheaper than its Redmond rival..."
You think $140B Sony has more purchasing power than $3.6T Microsoft? That's pretty cute. Lol
Re: Soapbox: Rainbow Six: Siege Is My Favorite Shooter of All Time and I Hate It
@Jimmer-jammer I can't remember exactly, but isn't that what Epic did with Fortnite? IIRC matching is by input type. That solves a lot of problems.
Re: PS5 Fans Are Giving Their Consoles Awesome Custom Paint Jobs
@Turismo4GT I had that same thought. Warranty legalese is notoriously narrow.
Re: PS5 Could Lose Out on Upgraded Versions of Past Bethesda Games
@sanderson72 those aren't bugs... those are features. Lol
Re: Observer: System Redux Is Another PS5 Launch Game
Oh look, another remake/reboot/remaster for launch. I guess backwards compatibility doesn't really matter when you just keep remaking games ಠಿ_ಠ
Re: PS5's Retail Packaging Is Obscenely Attractive
Yeah, I mean, it's a box. Good job, I guess?
Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Games Will Cost More
Man, if only they had some kind of service, or sub, where you could get first party games the day they came out for one low monthly price...(´-﹏-`)
