PS5's Retail Packaging Is Obscenely Attractive

Black box,but no black console🙈🙃.

I am just hoping to get one of the 11 million units, I don't care what the box looks like lol. But I loooove the black box, just make the console black too and I'll be happy.

I feel like they did it backwards after Xbox. And the more expensive black Wii U over the white Wii U.

And black is just nicer. Oh well not a big deal really.

Edit: Just saw tye blue line around the top of the box. Xbox has a green line around the bottom. Did they hire the same box design company? 😂

I wished the console was black as well 😅 but anyway them making the digital one seem more attractive means that's the one they want most people to go towards. Well it is the one that will make them the most money so I understand.

Wow, Im glad that they color coded the packages so kids don't have to wake up Christmas morning and be disappointed with a digital version instead of a physical version. They just have to say "the white box one"

I love the black box and the white system.
If I buy PS5 (doubtful), I would get digital since that's how I bought all my PS4 games anyway.

I managed to snag a Digital Edition from my local Gamestop. Everything sold out so fast.

not that it means ANYTHING - i like the white box with the blue at the top.....very striking.

@Juanalf I think that the physical console will be more popular because of the increased game prices. Physical games won't be that expensive. If the digital console sells more, I'll be surprised.

The "8K" bigger than "4K" labelling is interesting. Even Series X box doesn't advertise 8K at all. A bit misleading, isn't it?

@BlueOcean Well some PS4 games aren't even 1080p and many 4k games are 1440p. A crapload of XB1 games are less than 1080p. The Switch is meant to be HD but games run as low as 342p - by comparison the PS1 could do 480i. So the max potential resolition being a marketing point even if it's rare is an old thing now.

@Matroska The difference is that there won't be a single game that runs at 8K on PS5! Unless, I don't know, a Pong port?

@BlueOcean It'll be able to do 8K for remasters and indie games, but yeah, we're not gonna get anything next gen only games with cutting edge graphics also being 8K. It'll also do 8K for video streaming and disc-based movies when that rolls around, for what it's worth. The PS4 Pro couldn't play 4K discs which was annoying.

@Matroska Yeah but I still think it's misleading because it just says "8K" and nothing below that logo and the console is primarily designed for games.

The fact that PS4 Pro can't play 4K discs when Sony is one of the companies behind Blu-Ray is ridiculous. It also can't play CDs.

For some reason I like the XSX packaging more. I can’t put my finger on why. 🤷🏾‍♂️ But it still looks nice.

This article just 🤯🤯🤯 ... It's a box ... You showed us a picture ... Of a box. Nice going Sony also for this achivment. You could have released for retailers a screenshot of a exploded view of PS5s internals, instead you gave them ... A box.

@BlueOcean 8K compatible. So 8K for media whenever that's a thing, and the odd game that wants to waste resources on 8K.

PS4 Pro had also 4K and HDR on the box.

If you're buying on a brick-and-mortar retail store, remember to bring a hand cart as the thing is huge and weights a ton.

@Wavey84 Boo! Physical it is my friend! I preordered one last night. I moved out to the country and my Internet sucks so I still need discs. The PS5 may be my last "new" console I buy if the next gen goes all digital. I'm probably going to get Demon's Souls as my first game and maybe Sackboy. Speaking of Sackboy, I can't help but compare it to Mario Odyssey. Man, Nintendo is getting left in the dust visually right now! Oh well, I got my Analogue Super NT and preordered my NT Noir for my Nintendo game fix.

I am looking forward to Resident Evil 8 for sure though I still haven't even played REmake 3 yet!

I want the digital version. I haven't bought a physical copy of a game in over 5 years. It's quaint now for me to see a game on a compact disc. It's like seeing an old relic. 😆

i prefer the black packaging but wouldn't buy the digital edition even if it was the only option.

It's a box. It'll end up in the attic by the end of the day. Who cares.

I preordered the digital edition, but when I realized I would not be able to purchase used games. I switched back to the disc version. Think about it, with digital edition you might saved a hundred bucks NOW, but down the road you can only hope for PS Store sales to get a good deals on older games.

I like them. Look really, really nice and the PS5 looks superb honestly.

@BlueOcean Not misleading. The PS5 is capable of 8K. If theres no 8K content, thats really beside the point.

Absolutely. Some people may not be aware of. Its more expensive in the long term.
I also like the PS5 look a lot better than the PS5 DE. It just looks beastly and majestic at the same time. Amazing look.

I think the size is simply because 4k has HDR under it but '8K' is on the same line.
Nothing misleading in the character size.

@JJ2 But not on the box that people will find in the shops, the Series X box doesn't have the 8K logo, the PS5 box is misleading because games won't run at 8K.

Even my local store has labelled PS5 console pre-orders as "SONY PS5, 825 GB, 4K, HDR".

That is the box and my opinion remains the same, if one box says 4K and the other says 8K it looks like PS5 is more powerful than Series X and shoppers and parents than don't read forums (99% of them don't) may be confused. Respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.

I heard the console plates will be swappable, but who knows. Perhaps modified plates may be in shops one day. On that note if you wanted a black co sole just take off the plates and spray paint them 😅

@JJ2 I will get a Series X but I have a New 3DS, a Wii U, a PS4, an Xbox One X, it doesn't kill me to wait a little bit. I don't know if I'll buy it online or at a physical shop (I might get a better deal at a physical shop). I really don't care what consoles people prefer but if you want a PS5 and you managed to get one then good. All consoles are supposed to bring joy and fun. Peace 😄.

@Slain I think it looks like a giant praying mantis, especially the physical PS5 because of the hump.

I personally can't wait to start playing some excellent exclusive games in 8k on my new TV when I get my PS5. 🙂

The packaging looks amazing. The console had some beautiful curves.

I would still buy it in white if the black version was available I like the original design!

I'm going for digital only, I rarely buy physical media and think that the digital only just looks better. My opinion anyways.

I want one, now doubt, but I don't mind waiting tbh. I've got an insane back log and with ps now I'm just not in a rush. Will defo pick it up from a retailer if available day one, if not, no problem.

Also, I knew there would be a £100 difference between 5he console and said 399/499 all along. On paper it's too much but it pushes us all to going totally digital which is truly sweet for the industry.

@BlueOcean I have a PSP, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro. Just looking too get a get PS1 and PS2 Again. Oh and i have a New 3DS the metroid version.
