100% this, which is why it is particularly infuriating when Microsoft uses their poor business decisions as justification for buying up large swathes of the gaming market.

Games Workshop's attention to detail is a large part of why Warhammer 40K content is always consistent. I appreciate that.

A nice selection. They are not live for the U.S. yet, but when they are, I'll definitely download WWE 2K24 for the showcase mode.

I'd rather it not sell out because if it does, it means:
A) Sony cannot keep up with demand, which is bad for business and consumers
B) Scalpers will have more power.

It's a bizarre choice for Square-Enix to turn down free advertising, but they are not known for making smart decisions.

Eh. It was mostly folks who are not the target audience of the PS5 Pro being loud and complaining and physical media fans in existential crisis mode. Those of us who are the target audience and are logical enough to understand the price makes sense will either buy the PS5 Pro if they want or they won't. It is simply another option on the market for those that want their games to play better and there's nothing wrong with that.

The requirement of a PSN account and the limit of 1 per user definitely helped prevent scalping.

I want to buy it from Target for that 5% off! It isn't much, but it covers 2/3 of sales tax, which is good for me.

If it weren't for California (and the European Union), a lot of the U.S. would be so much worse than it is now. Good ol' California often passes sensible laws that companies follow and apply across the whole country since it is the most populous and powerful state.

Just recently California passed the Click to Cancel law. My backwards state won't ever do anything like that, so I'm hoping we get the benefits of California's law.

As a financial analyst (though, not for a gigantic international entertainment company like Sony), I think Sony should have just eaten the price increase from the weakness of the yen.They would have made a lot more money from software and services than they are now and, even more importantly, wouldn't cede ground to a competitor, which will cost them exponentially more over time.

From the start, I said Sony had an opportunity to either make $10 or $0 from me. Luckily, they made the right decision for both of us.

I want to own this game, but I am still waiting for the price to get quite low, since I already bought the game on PS3 and again on PS4.

Regulators were definitely right to try and block Microsoft buying up more of the industry. They don't need to buy their way to the top in every industry they exist in.

I trust Colin, but that figure seems unbelievable.

Surely, they are including the price of acquiring the studio in that, but maybe not. The game has been in development for eight years, which is why it presumably seemed like the game was designed for eight years ago.

There sure are a lot of people who think serialized sequels (as in sequels that continue a singular story) should sell more than the preceding part, for some reason. That doesn't make sense. I would think the ceiling for Ragnarök, all else being equal, is the number of copies sold of the first God of War game.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is another recent example of this silliness. Do people actually believe more people will play Rebirth than those who played Remake? Use your noggins!

The price point wasn't silly. Not everything has to be free-to-play and loaded with microtransactions.

I hope there is an upgrade path. If not, I'll pass. $10 or nothing. Sony's choice.

The game was far better than it got credit for. Maybe if the remaster does well, we'll get the sequel we deserve!

The answer to the headline question is two-fold:
1) Because Sony likes money
2) Because people will buy them

Not everyone buys PS4 games for their PS5 and an opportunity to sell to new customers is one worth exploring when you're in business

I know there are underhanded ways around it, but PS Direct does have some limitations that make scalping more difficult. I hope that works.

Could one of the causes, or perhaps the main cause, be that Square Enix's expectations were characteristically unrealistic?

This update is soooo good! I found the game very fun before, but now it's even more fun!

If there is an upgrade path for $10 or less, I'm interested.
