I don't wanna start an argument. Anyways you said Cloud x Aerith shippers ignore everything that happens between Cloud and Tifa. Thats hypocritical as Cloud, Tifa shippers do the exact same thing. I don't think @Davidngo ignored what happened with Tifa, it's clear that Cloud has great affection for both girls, he was however highlighting that the evidence for his romantic interest points towards Aerith. Anyways this is going to go no where and trust me will be endless. At the end of it neither party is going to change opinions LOL, so lets just leave it at that.
THANK YOU. You literally ripped the words right out of my mouth.
In regards to @FullbringIchigo
I thnk we can come to an agreement that pretty much we don't know whats going to happen in part 2, I dont think @Davidngo or @Daenerys has ever argued against that. The one thing for sure is that there's many possibilities, we'll just have to wait and see.
Second, I don't agree with that logic. I think that the scenes are Cloud's respective emotional response to Aerith and Tifa, and so it makes sense compare the significance. But it's ok you don't have to agree.
Third Cloud does NOT inherit elements of Zack, he inherits elements of his fragmented First class soldier life/ideals (as Davidngo and Cloud39 have said) which give him that cold hard personality, Aerith is cracking him open and reaching to his true persona. So I must tell you that this 'zack persona' is completely false and fabricated, as the other members have clearly explained and these feelings are completely his own.
Fourth its note a 'mute point' just because Aeris died in the original. His love still transcends past the end of the game, just because she's not physically on the planet in the og does not automatically terminate his love. And it's up to the audience's interpretation on whether he 'accepts Tifa' or whether Aeris death leaves a hole that can never be replaced, which is one of the reasons made her death so powerful in the first place. So for you, you can go ahead and imagine it as him 'ending up with Tifa' That's your personal view, not everyone is going to agree with that, it can also be viewed as an eternal tragedy which makes it so resonating. There is a whole essay on this on Tor which I can link if you are interested, though I think you would rather leave it at that.
Fifth and Finally, you can have your own opnion on what you think will happen to Aerith thats fine. But myself and the other members disagree with that and we've made it clear why. Regardless of what we think what's certain is that anything can happen we have no clue "the unknown journey continues", so I think we can all agree and lets leave it at that.
"and it also hints at the fact that not all of Clouds feelings are his own". I dont think so lol.. quite the opposite
Frankly, it seems to literally be the writer's intention for this scene to make it clear to the audience that what you're saying is NOT the case.
And pointing THAT out is literally half of what I'm trying to say here.
Every other time Cloud's confronted with information that shatters the false memories and persona he built up in response to his fragmented first class soldier experiences, it gives him migraines as @Davidngo has said
That very clearly doesn't happen in this scene.
More importantly, it's a moment of him not even just expressing his feelings but actively reinforcing them.
"Don't I get a say in all this?" is basically, "You can't tell me that my feelings for you are not real," in response to Aerith trying to suggest otherwise.
Those two things together both show that 1) Cloud is changing as a person as a result of his time with Aerith and 2) it makes it clear that it IS him.
Quite ironically it seem You are the one thats pulling straws here. Everything that that has been said by both @Davidngo and @Daenerys have actually happened. You are trying soo hard to deny Cloud's own genuine feelings for Aerith. It's not about shipping the couple its about What Happened, whether you like it or not.
You're flat wrong. Cloud clearly has a bias towards Aerith over Tifa. He's always been so much warmer to Aerith who honestly just cracks him open like a walnut. Even in chapter 14 in the special Cutscene he confesses his love. People try to make the argument "his thoughts weren't fully his own, they were partly Zack", simply don't want to accept that Cloud was actually being his true self. Even if you don't want to believe it, the Devs themselves (Kojima and some others) actually confirmed in an IGN interview that Cloud was being himself.
Yes Cloud does definitely care for Tifa but its always been as a friend. Tifa has been a childhood friend and so he will always care for her, but it's Aerith who he has true romantic feelings for.
And no he actually doesn't end up with Tifa. Part of what made Aeris death so powerful and iconic was because there was no replacement for. He couldn't get over her as you see in the whole Advent children movie. Tifa could never fill the hole that Aeris left and he was left in a tragedy mourning for his lover.
