@ChrisDeku Some good points there. I'm usually one to refrain on commenting about release numbers of these ports on PC as there's always more nuance in the market. In this case the combination of quality issues and online discourse about the game's content and PSN requirements have all contributed to the loss in immediate interest compared to earlier ports.
PC is a different beast and I'm still not convinced it's the best use of Nixxes as a studio, especially when first party output on the console is lacking at the moment. Again, I'm talking from a primarily Playstation players perspective.
@ChrisDeku first time I've ever quoted steam metrics. Damn ๐ regardless, it clearly shows that having PC ports isnt some surefire way to increase your audience to a huge degree, unless maybe if it's on something like Game Pass.
13k is even worse than what Avowed has achieved (lol) so that's seriously unimpressive considering the relative scale and the fact that Avowed was also on game pass. I know it's more nuanced than that due to release times etc. but it's not good however you look at it.
As @AdamNovice says, Nixxes are surely better suited being put to work elsewhere. Remastering unplayable games (on modern consoles) from older generations would be fantastic. Of course I'm speaking as someone who mostly plays on Playstation so I'm a little biased.
The game is incredible. I have not experienced this feeling of a such deep RPG since I first played Oblivion back in the day. So much fun even to wander the countryside and even the smallest quest is full of memorable moments โค๏ธ
I wouldn't let the combat difficulty put you off either - I was terrible for the first 20 hours but it's still massive amounts of fun. And this is coming from someone who usually gives up eventually due to repeated deaths (looking at you Fromsoft). I'm now around 55 hours in and I'm finally a passable combatant ๐
So much hype/success for original games coming from Poland - eastwards these days. Hmm. I wonder why that is ๐ค
Edit: just to clarify, I don't mean the often repeated point of having attractive characters. I mean the fact that they offer characters and stories that are outside of the homogeneous and ham-fisted wave of social culture that is often repeated in Western games.
Terrible comparison though considering it's all of the close up scenes where you won't see the improvements mentioned. The original PC version offered similar upgrades - it looked awesome - and I'm guessing this'll push it further still in those particular areas, along with the additional modes.
Obviously this remaster is a lot less visually ambitious than Horizon so I can understand the disappointment. As other people have said, I imagine the main purpose of this is to gauge the playerbase for a sequel. Would have been nice to see an engine overhaul but for a tenner I won't say no - the Ghost of Tsushima upgrade offered far less and I bought that ๐
@Weebleman I do wonder how some look at a game (or a presentation) they don't like and immediately label it as "bad". There's a HUGE difference between not liking something personally and something being overall "bad" for everyone.
I honestly feel for people who only want the AAA first party stuff. There was a wide array of genres and themes on display from all sizes of developers. Gamers say they want new IPs from different devs then deride them when shown. Criticism is of course valid (Sony have done a very poor job communicating progress of it's studios) and welcome but as always, it's the knee-jerk, angry reactions that come across as ridiculous - the very same drama queens that'll start claiming that this article is trying to stifle any criticism โคต๏ธ
@nessisonett that's extremely rich coming from you ๐ they address this in the article but you can choose to ignore it to remain angry.
Edit: I'd also like to mention that I'm glad Push Square realises journalism is a big contributor the problem. It must be difficult knowing what to/what not to amplify. Just be careful of forming a bubble...
Huge horror fan - love the look of this but as usual with the horror genre, you rarely know if the film is good until the last half hour ๐ it usually ends up falling apart at the final hurdle.
Cinematography and everything looks nice. Sufficiently creepy bodysuits used (...in combination with CGI - at least there some physicality). Actors seem well suited. Time loop idea fits in well with the source material. Fingers crossed, eh? ๐ค
@kingtoten Yeah, since COVID Sony have fallen really far behind with their first part studios along with all the live service cancellations it's left the slate a bit bare. Even now I doubt they have enough to show for a full showcase (I mean of actual substance/gameplay).
Although I can't say I'm all gloom and doom about the future though. There's enough first and third party content for me personally. I'm kind of lucky in that I appreciate a wide variety of genres I guess, but I do understand the frustration at the lack of updates on the big titles.
I'm sad that the Willy's Wonderland game wasn't given more love a fully 3D animatronic beat-em-up as the rage Cage would have been great.
I have FNAF Security Breach in my physical horror collection and I enjoyed what I played of it. It's big on the jump scares and tense chase sequences but some bugs and lack of direction kept it from it's potential.
@IOI what? I'm not excusing anything ๐ I'm just saying to people who were expecting several first party announcements that a SoP isn't the event you're waiting for. There was one first party announcement, as is the norm.
There were loads of good games in there for me ๐ although I am genuinely sorry you have nothing to look forward to from this ๐ it's sad. I hope there's more coming this year that piques your interest!
I've got my eye on at least 5 in that list so I'm pretty happy ๐ new Onimusha is gonna be great and that futuristic FPS [Metal Eden] looks slick! Great selection of Japanese/Chinese/Korean games in there too.
Honestly, I'm more pumped than ever for the hobby - Kingdom Come is on the telly right now, a huge backlog of awesome games on the shelf and tons more coming up this year. My Pro has been blessed ๐
@ButterySmooth30FPS you're doing gaming wrong. You have to channel all of your burning hatred into your hobby and let it spill out in an oozing pile onto an online forum somewhere! You get extra points if you plop it right in someone's lap.
There were quite a few eye-catching games in there! New Housemarque stuff is a blessing ๐
Edit: sorry, I meant it was awful. So bad. The baddest there ever was. I watched it and said: "wow, look how bad it was". I hate games ๐ am I doing it right?
People don't seem to understand the difference between State of Play and a Playstation Showcase ๐ค
@Contimaloris nahh you can start wherever with these ๐ they've been getting more beginner-friendly so Wilds might be the better option to start with.
Back when I was falling in love with the game on PS2 I just knew it was something incredibly special. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect it to blow up this big.
Thank you for all the beautiful memories past and future, MonHun โค๏ธ๐ฅฒ
@Rich33 honestly I'm alright with 40 or even 30fps but that's only if the visuals are a vast improvement. Obviously I'll go for higher frame rate now I have a Pro for the majority of the time as the difference is usually so minor compared to some of the incredibly rough-looking performance modes on the base model. Playing games like Stellar Blade and Horizon in their 120hz modes is absolutely stunning ๐คค Kingdom Come has been another stellar upgrade for the Pro as well ๐
@Proxy_One I'd say it was definitely worth the upgrade for me. I was becoming unimpressed with some of the image quality results on the base model, especially in the performance modes (Games running at sub-1080p with poor upscaling). Even the quality modes were struggling in heavy games like Alan Wake and Avatar.
The Pro has sort of spoit me now that I'm used to a 60+ frame rate and games tend to match the base PS5's quality mode or exceed it. Frame rates are also much more stable. However, I wouldn't recommend the Pro unless you have a 120hz TV ๐
@Proxy_One this is most likely because you don't notice the performance issues, not because your PS5 is faster than others' ๐ to be fair, I was alright with Dragon's Dogma 2's performance at launch because the game still handled well.
And yeah they've said there will be a Pro mode. It's only a single mode at 40fps though
@Rich33 I agree man. Weird they haven't bothered including any improvements or the Pro mode ๐ค. Ive been playing the beta in quality mode (and 120hz) on Pro and performance is all over the place, ranging from 48fps up to 78fps even in low-stress situations. Definitely not a good first impression visually. I'm a huge MonHun fan though so I have the game pre-ordered regardless.
And yes I did! It literally took over 20 tries but the NPC finally calmed down enough to let me save him ๐คฃ
@Drago201 that's because it's basically the same build as the last beta. They've already said they're making changes ๐ same goes for performance. The Pro mode wasn't included either.
@Rich33 I'm hoping the next beta with have the Pro mode included. Surely they can't release the same build 3 times ๐ I'd imagine they'd want to test some of the changes they've made before release.
