Re: The Last of Us Popularity Surges as Season 2 TV Trailer Breaks Records

LiamOliver

Meh. I didn't get around to watching the first one yet. And haven't finished the games, so I can't watch it until I get around to that. It's not that I'm not interested, and the few hours I played on PS3 I enjoyed, I just haven't been able to get back into it, either on PS3, PS4 or PS5. Heck, my copy of TLOU2 is still in it's cellophane.

Re: Activision Confirms Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Won't Be Free Roam on PS5, PS4

LiamOliver

Having played 1, 2 and 3 to death I skipped 4 (because life) and only played a bit of Underground, so I've nothing to be upset about. I'm very much looking forward to this, pre order is in (saved a fiver, thanks HMV) and I'm keen to get my hands on it. Especially as it's out just before my birthday. I can appreciate those that spent time with the game being upset though.

I do have a copy of 4, and a PS2, I just haven't got around to making a 25 year old console play nice with a modern telly.... TBH I'm more inclined to go down the emulation route, which means I really need a GPU... 🙄

Re: Sony's Pricey PS5 Pro Is Now Being Outpaced by PS4 Pro Launch Aligned in the US

LiamOliver

@LifeGirl I've had (and still have) every major PlayStation console and the PS5 beats the crap outta it's precursor's, the Pro even more so. Admittedly development times have become far too long and if not for this we'd have more games, and I don't understand why Sony seem so keen to not lean on their massive catalogue of IP to make a few more pennies, but we've still had a fair flow of games, even if some of them have been remakes. But the PS2 generation will never be beat.

Re: PC Users Furious Over Lost Soul Aside Being Blocked from Sale in 130 Countries

LiamOliver

As an ex PC gamer (because I refused to pay my left testicle for a GPU) I just can't figure out why Sony does this. It's not really about fraud or security if it's going through Steam (or any other PC storefront) because most other publishers have no issue selling their wares in those territories, and it's Steam who'll deal with any issues. Yes die hards will work around it, but they shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to play a sodding computer game.

Sometimes I wonder if Sony are just playing at it, they seem to miss opportunities to make serious wedge left right and frigging centre!

Re: Xbox Creator Believes Content and Experiences Are More Important for Consoles Than Graphics

LiamOliver

I think we all know that graphics have been leveling off and I've been saying since mid PS4's cycle it's becoming more about immersion than the shininess of the pixels, console gamers will start to understand the benefits of higher refresh rates and VRR once that tech is standard in most TV's. Buddy of mine got a new TV because he's getting a (my old) PS5 but it's only 60hz so he still won't get the full benefits (if he'd have rung me I'd have pointed him in the direction of TCL because they're doing really well right now).

Re: PSN Downtime Raises Fresh Questions About PS5's Future Functionality

LiamOliver

I had this exact issue. Argos delivered me a shiny new disc drive at 8:30, by 9:30 I was swearing and cursing because I'd factory reset my old console and my Pro was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

But in however many years it'll be before it's an issue the Pro will have been through CEX (or similar) and I'll be on newer and shinier things. The original PS5 (disc edition) will be sat in the collection, probably not hooked up to anything. But it'll be there and be ready to play. Until disc rot sets into my collection.

Re: Free PS Plus Extension for All Members Affected by PSN Outage

LiamOliver

What bugged me most was that I couldn't register my freshly delivered disc drive to my Pro, and (like an idiot) I'd swapped my SSD and reset my original PS5 before setting the Pro up to be my only console. And because.... Sony? none of my digital games worked.
At least I got some decorating done though...

Re: Mailbox: The Joy of Astro Bot, Ciri in The Witcher 4, and Terrible Trophy Lists

LiamOliver

This was actually a fantastic read. Upon initially reading of this plan I smirked at it's 'twee'ness, but you guys actually pulled it off!
As for Kamil Drews' letter, and your response, trophy lists can be great at encouraging players to play a game they wouldn't have considered (everyone NOT dying in DDLC was a relief), or highlighting additional content, but (having recently ponied up for Plus Premium for a few months) classic trophy lists seem a lot haphazard, and, more broadly, I'm tired of games having stupid trophies that render a list incomplete forever more (looking at you, GT5), or trophy lists that are too cryptic to know what the hell you do to get them (FS22?).

Re: PS Plus Subscriptions on Sale, Up to 35% Off

LiamOliver

I've never felt the pull to sign up for anything more than essential, but for under 15 quid 'til June I figured I should at least have a look... Not gonna say it was a waste of money, but most of what I would give a go I already own! (and apparently I own a digital copy of Bloodborne, somehow?)

Re: Poll: How Would You Have Reacted to a Live Service God of War Announcement?

LiamOliver

Why wasn't "I would have been ambivalent" an option? That's generally my initial response to these kind of things. Now a follow up to Ragnarok and I've have been intrigued, but as soon as I hear 'live service' I find the cobwebs in the corner more interesting... Although in this instance I might have been inclined to find out how it was going to work, because I can't figure out how for the life of me....

Re: Horizon MMO May Have Survived NCSOFT's Cull After All

LiamOliver

@get2sammyb I only want single player games. The only online gaming community I got on with was when I was into iRacing (a decade ago), and I'm not that into running around shooting at people for 'fun'. Or even at all, maybe it's my British sensibilities. What I don't get is how the likes of GoW (played the OG and Ragnarok) and Horizon (own but it's buried in the backlog) can make a decent MMO, don't they have only a main protagonist and a couple of side characters? Is that enough to manipulate into something that works? Both of these examples have astounding worlds that could be taken advantage of, but asides from that I don't get what else they can do to make them appealing.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida on PSVR2: 'I'm Sorry'

LiamOliver

@thefourfoldroot1 Fair points, except No Man's... Jumped on the hype train for its release and it was probably one of the biggest letdowns of my gaming life, so I tend to glare at the box with resentment and pick something (anything?) else...

Re: Shuhei Yoshida on PSVR2: 'I'm Sorry'

LiamOliver

PSVR was cool, and PSVR2 should have built on that. Technically it's excellent, if a tad expensive, and has so much more potential than the first go it boggles my box that Sony seem to be so disinterested in it. Although, now I have it, I wouldn't play GT7 any other way...

Re: The Elusive PS5 Disc Drives Are Back in Stock Right Now in the US

LiamOliver

I've noticed the ebay prices have slunk down again so a few places must have had fair sized deliveries in the UK recently.

@madmaxrules They seem to have had a big delivery because yesterday, and this morning still, they were available in some stores. Closest was only about a hundred miles away from me so I found it as useful as a chocolate fireguard, but we live in hope...

Re: Unfortunately, PS5's Disc Drive Add-On Shortage Doesn't Seem to Be Getting Better

LiamOliver

Sony having the sales figures that 70-80% of consoles sold are with a disc drive means they knew 80% of Pro buyers would be after a disc drive so should've been ready to supply, it's gone past being inconvenient now, it's borderline farcical. I'm still hoping for a massive drop that causes all those scalpers to have to sell what they've got their grubby mitts on at a loss, but it doesn't look like Sony could organise a drinking session in a brewery right now. To put it politely.

And if this is some sort of digital push strategy the truth will out and the CMA can nail their balls to the wall for all I care..

Re: PS5 Pro, Cash Bonus Rewarded to All Stellar Blade Dev Employees

LiamOliver

Pfft! And to think Push Square didn't have 'em in the top 3 devs of 2024?!? (unless I'm totally misremembering, because med's...). I knew about the base PS5 gifting so this isn't jaw dropping news, but I think it's one of those things that made me sit up and pay more attention to 'Project Eve', they then put out some excellent trailers and I was on the hook. Have since blasted through it 7 times, each one as much fun as the last. When they announce SB2 I'll be first in the queue for a pre-order.

To anyone who hasn't played this game because "cEnSoRsHiP... Wah Wah Waaaahh!", you're the ones that're missing out, the game is an absolute blast.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Astro Bot

LiamOliver

For me it was either this or Stellar Blade. Not so much this year (last year?) has pulled me away from grinding out some incomplete trophy lists, but I played this with the joy of a child. Although never got around to finishing it. Soon. Probably.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Astro Bot

LiamOliver

@Northern_munkey Totally worth it man, you should treat yourself. This (and Stellar Blade) reminded me of my early gaming years (Mega Drive and PS1 then PS2) for the sheer fun and no worries about playing. And I'm generally not into these games, as my Fanatec setup and 'shelf of Gran Turismo' will attest to.

Re: Game of the Year: Sammy's Top 5 PS5 Games of 2024

LiamOliver

I'll readily admit that SB has it's faults, and as much as ShiftUp seem to have focused on suits/costumes/outfits (which is of little to no interest to me) the support they've shown post launch is above and beyond. I've not noticed any bugs either so it seems like that rare thing nowadays where the game was ready to ship at launch. I'm more of a motorsports gamer but have finished the Spider-man games, R&C and got halfway through most other games in PS5, but from the moment I started playing SB I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it's a very fun and playable (and replayable) game and I'm very much looking forward to a sequel(/prequel?)... Maybe in 2025 I'll get around to finishing AstroBot? Ng+ the Spider-man games? Although it's looking like I'll be getting back into GT7 seeing as they've (seemingly) resolved many of my issues with it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 559

LiamOliver

This weekend has followed the trend of the past week; tidying up some of my outstanding games/trophies. Finally got the 'What the...?' for Cities Skylines lunchtime, now I'm edging ever closer to lvl 50 in GT Sport. Because I will have that Platinum dammit! (only something like 350,000 XP to go... 🙄)

Re: All The Game Awards 2024 Winners

LiamOliver

Probably not a popular opinion, but I thought the score for Rebirth was pretty meh, Stellar Blade's score and music was sublime though, plus ShiftUp deserved something for putting out a game that worked straight outta the box that has had a not insignificant amount of meaningful updates. Ah well, there's always SB2....

Re: All The Game Awards 2024 Winners

LiamOliver

@SillyBoyJudas Personally I think it's well worth it, but Astro's Playroom was my first PS5 game and I'd played Rescue Mission a few years back, AstroBot is the better of the 3 though as it feels more like a game than a tech demo.
Seeing as it's PS5 only you can always give Playroom a go first as it ain't gonna cost you owt, plus you can get ahead on a couple of characters for AstroBot if you get into it. I'll admit I have a degree of bias as I'm old enough to have the nostalgia strings tugged mind.
