Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, and Metaphor: ReFantazio All Get a Boost on PS5 Pro

@Weebleman Oh yeah, I mean I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom, these are just my out-of-the-box impressions, and I just feel a little butt-hurt after how much it costs. I know that, on the positive side, I am future proofing, which makes me feel a bit better ha!

And yeah it is on a per-game basis so there's probably a lot of great improvements I've yet to see. I guess it's just another example of early adopters getting shafted

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, and Metaphor: ReFantazio All Get a Boost on PS5 Pro

JB_Whiting

@Deljo So I've tried:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Silent Hill 2
Space Marine 2
Metaphor
Hell Let Loose
Battlefield 2042
God of War Ragnarok
Black Myth Wukong

And all of them have like.... 5% improvements on res and FPS. I know there are games like Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma that have a significant boost, and I could observe those through videos so I didn't need to do a test myself. But these games are, by and large, exactly the same. I even went back and forth on my base PS5 (on a 65" OLED for reference), and there's not much discernable
difference, (save for some frames saved here and there); you are getting the same experience.

Like I said until they start releasing actual Pro updates and communicating such clearly, it really, really isn't worth the money IMHO.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, and Metaphor: ReFantazio All Get a Boost on PS5 Pro

JB_Whiting

@Weebleman Exactly. It hasn't; it just has the Quality and Performance toggles, same as base PS5, and so does every game that I've tested. I'm starting to get buyer's remorse a little bit; dropped nearly a grand on what... playing the same games and have 99% the same graphical experience.

They really need to start dropping these Pro Enhanced updates ASAP. Thing is.... if I dropped the same amount on upgrading/buying a new PC; I'd get a HUGE, and immediate noticeable difference. But with consoles, we're at the whim of the developers needing to patch it in. What a joke.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, and Metaphor: ReFantazio All Get a Boost on PS5 Pro

JB_Whiting

Is it just me or... is there a severe lack of actual "PS5 Pro Enhanced" patches? I've not had one game I've booted up on the Pro really be that much different; asides from a basic res bump and some smoother framerates. Like where are the official enhancements; there's nothing for Silent Hill especially which seems to have even worse shimmering! Someone help me I feel like I'm going mad lol.

Re: Metaphor: ReFantazio Immediately Tops 1 Million Sales at Launch

JB_Whiting

They got a sale from me. THIS is how you promote a game; release a generous "prologue" demo that let's you carry your progress over. Honestly I never heard of this game until I got my hands on that demo. I've never played any Persona games either, but after 5 hours with this, I fell in love, and immediately placed an order. I loved the little touches like the message at the beginning "we really hope you enjoy this slice!" and the trailer at the end that showed you what was in store if you chose to get the game.

Really was won over by it. Bravo Atlus.

EDIT: My only concerns is that the game runs quite poorly. It's in desperate need of some framerate fixes and please, please put some anti-aliasing in pronto.

Re: Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe Behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Rousing Soundtrack

JB_Whiting

@MathiasBS Exactly. He probably played two notes on a keyboard and gave the rest to one of his underpaid interns.

This sounds super generic to me; and is another example of Zimmer rejecting interesting melodies he did years back, for bland synth-based rhythmic sounds. It also doesn't sound very Dragon Age to me; if you want your high fantasy game to have a touch of Hollywood, they'd be better off tapping Howard Shore.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2?

JB_Whiting

7/10 for me.

Campaign felt a bit brief and I wasn't super invested in the story (i'm not 40K fan though). Operations is where it's at and I'm having fun with mates. But the overall gameplay feels a little, weightless. Like it's not as snappy or responsive as something like Gears or even Helldivers 2; melee combat feels a bit unresponsive. Also really, really not a fan of the super low resolution in performance mode, makes everything looks muddy, which is a shame as the game really does look excellent in places.

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

JB_Whiting

@Troubbble "If video games are art, they should be treated that way, and not reshaped at the drop of a hat to conform to the current moment's latest progressive values.

......

"Personally, I've played through this game two full times (minimum) over the years and never purposefully engaged with that feature of the game."

So like, why do you care? Why are you voicing your stance on censorship so staunchly if, at the end of the day, you don't actually really care that much?

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Black Myth: Wukong?

JB_Whiting

I'm nearing the end of Chapter 4 and it's a strong 7.... maybe closer to an 8?

It's very addictive once you find its groove, however its groove is very repetitive - like there's no experimenting with builds or anything - you basically just spam the same abilities, then dodge around while they're on cooldown. Rinse and repeat for every boss, seems to work just fine. It basically goes from Dark Souls hard in chapter 1, to like, God of War on medium once you level up.

The game is both gorgeous and extremely ugly (on PS5 anyway). Those dreaded UE unfinished textures are EVERYWHERE, like it's nice to look at from afar but there's just too many rocks with no texture that bring it down. Also whenever you whip the camera round too fast the game basically falls apart.

The world design is kind of OK, I love the expansive areas but they're too based in "real" looking locations, just mostly trees and rock: the desert chapter was so brown and muddy I started to feel queasy.

Having said all that I can't put it down and am having fun with it so what do I know.
