I think it was purely an issue of time. Sean wanted to create this vast complex space exploration game, with no real experience of this scale. In the end they were a victim of time. I guarantee that Sean and the team realised that they had to release it. They delayed by 2 months and recieved death threats, can you imagine if they asked for 6 months? I really wish it released and got the good attention it deserves. It's heading in the right direction, which shows the team give a toss.
It seems as though it became "cool" to hate NMS. I feel that most people who mock, or wish HG staff pain and suffering are just on the bandwagon. I always knew this would be a solo, placid exploration game, a kind of romantic notion that you are on your own and free to discover. The game gave me a lot of joy and wonder, and has done every time they add more content. I bought the physical and always kept it, I'd have kept it even if the trade in value was decent. I kept it because it was refreshingly different and ticked a box no other title could for me. Elite dangerous is a very different game. It's like comparing need for Speed and Driveclub. Both racing games but the core experience is difference. There's been so many games released over the years that were outright broken. NMS was never broken at launch.
And let's remember that they are an indie developer who refused money from Sony. Self developed, self published.
Literally my most anticipated game of next year. Like many hunters from the first game, I've been waiting for this to come back to a PlayStation for the controls and the visual fidelity.
Switch is getting XX so I'm not sure this is a switch release. Capcom Japan did say that they recognise the amount of consoles sold in the west as an untapped market for some of their IP, including Monster Hunter. If I had to put my guess in, I'd go with a PS4 version of XX as the game spans several villages from all over the MH world.
If I was ridiculously optimistic then I'd hope for a new game built from the ground up. Western markets do like open world games so an open world title would not be out of the question.
The only reason I have a 3DS is to keep up with Monster Hunter. I played it from the first entry on PS2 and there was always something about it's atmosphere and character that makes it unlike any other game. I have GE and GE2, and had Toukiden and although they are great games with hugely deeper storylines they don't have the charm of MH. I've been hoping to see the franchise done justice on current consoles. The switch version of XX looks like a HD port of the DS title. I can only dream of how beautiful it would look on a PS4. If this does have merit I'd like to see it on the Xbox one, cross platform play included. It could help to introduce the franchise to the west, more popularity then the more revenue will be made, and more chance of future releases.
I wouldn't give this rumour any credit if there had not been an interview with a capcom guy who said that the west was untapped for MH on consoles. With the millions of units sold there is a good market for this. Atlus, xseed, Koei Tecmo and Bandai Namco all translate and bring games to the west, it's time capcom give us a console version again!

Either way this could be great news.
