The silly part is MS will leave them like they do ever other partnership. MS don't care about TR what they "care" about are sales of Xbox One this holiday season. So SE may well have set back Lara years by doing this but again MS doesn't care (they actually never do believe it or not).
Reggie has always irritated me and I don't see why he is the PR spokesman and Head of Operations in the US. At least Spencer pretends he likes his customer base.
Said this a hundred times even when the Wii was released Nintendo stumbled onto a great idea and in the end even they were surprised. When you stumble on an idea it makes it always difficult to reproduce.
Great companies listen to their fans and create products (within reason of course) that make them want to come back for more. Nintendo are making that happen on the hand held.
If I were Nintendo I'd make the NX the best possible hand held console they could ever make. If peeps want to play on TV develop a tech that enables seamless transition over WiFi or through mini HDMI (possibly an external controller).
Sometimes I think we try to read more into things than actually meets the eye. Well I like it that MS is thinking more about gaming in general. Remains to be seen if Minecraft 2.0 will be universally available across all systems (IMO I suspect so).
As for dropping Xbox hardware (not the brand) that I expect will always be a possibility if they fail to make headway into the latest gen of of console hardware. MS makes the vast majority of its money from software and Xbox hardware is really insignificant to their business.
I get both sides of the argument. I'm certainly not a fan of MS in general (I have to deal with them in a business life) but I can see why they were motivated to approach SE about a limited exclusivity. I think what incenses most people is the fact they continue to show they still don't understand what gamers want. If they would just focus on gamers it would be awesome. Consoles would sell and developers would create games for their console.
Phil essentially is a good sales guy and he gets well paid to make you like him. Unfortunately cracks are appearing in his facade.
