I’ve been waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2 for an age.
When I played the original, I was about 17-years-old, and my mates and I used to squeeze into my tiny bedroom to play the game on Xbox 360. So it was an odd sensation squeezing into a tiny booth at Gamescom to check out the sequel 13 years later.
I sat down with Design Director Jess Hara Campbell and Principal Scene Coordinator Leslie Harwood to play a short hands-off demo of the long-awaited sequel. And those opening moments felt like slipping on a comfy pair of joggers, helped all the more by the original voice cast returning for many of the familiar faces in the sequel.

Taking place just six months after the events of the last game, Bigby Wolf is forced to work alongside a Mundy (human) cop, Faye, who's chasing down a serial killer. Unbeknownst to Faye, Bigby suspects our killer is a Fable, and this sets up the biggest dynamic of this demo, and potentially the whole game.
As Bigby, you have to decide whether to be honest with Faye about magic and the world of the Fables, or keep your community safe and secret. Either decision is said to have impacts on the story, and it’ll certainly impact your relationship with Faye herself.
The near-ageless comic book visuals mean the game looks very similar, although of course a lot crisper. The neo-noir inspiration to this dark murder mystery gives it such a cool and distinct style, and I loved the idea of cosying up to play this upon the whole release, which I was told will see all episodes drop at once.
Anyway, in the portion I was shown, Faye and Bigby find themselves locked in a Mundy’s apartment with an ominous runic table puzzle to solve. As you explore the apartment with the game's new over-the-shoulder third-person perspective, you must examine different clues to work out the puzzle.

Jess and Leslie spoke about trying to give the players options when it came to the puzzles, like a full auto-solve feature for those that just want to focus on the story. Faye, as a companion in this scene, will also examine the environment, commenting on little clues, but they were keen to point out that she won’t bombard you with hints. The system is supposedly dynamic too, with contextual comments based on what you’ve already found.
I didn’t get a great sense of the puzzle-solving, mainly because we were a bit tight for time, and Leslie quickly did the steps for me. What I really enjoyed was the way it built up to you making that choice with Faye, as she became more and more irritated because she was seeing things that didn’t make sense to her.
I eventually opted to tell her about magic and, to be honest… she took it pretty well. I wonder how it will evolve things as the story continues, however.

From a narrative perspective, I was certainly intrigued. I loved the whole serial killer set-up, and the forcing of Fable and Mundy together. Undeniably, it feels like more of The Wolf Among Us, but I don’t really see a problem with that. I don’t know about you, but I just want some more Bigby investigations.
The issue is that the demo I was shown felt very early in development. Missing VFX, stand-in voice lines, text boxes explaining features that will be in the full release, and even a level completely devoid of any graphics, just the layout with grey boxes.
I love this world, and the small polished sections that were there gave me some confidence that it could be worth the wait. The unfinished sections made me wonder if that wait will be longer than we’re hoping.
2027 is the current release window, and a lot can change in six months or a year, and to be fair to Telltale this is an early, behind-closed-doors look at a press expo, it was never going to be the finished product. But we’ve been waiting such a long time for this game, so I'm hoping that Telltale don’t stumble in the final stretch.
Have you been waiting patiently for The Wolf Among Us 2? Where does this game register on your most-wanted list? Let me know below.

This was definitely my favourite telltale game, but I remember the studio spreading itself too thin.
I was sure back then that one of the streamers would turn Fables into a series by now, but nothing so far. Anyways, glad Bigby's back.
One of the best games of that generation and certainly up there with the first walking dead by telltale. Hype for this is tremendous ❤️
I bought this game back in 2015 knowing nothing about fables and afterwards ended up getting the entire book series. Incredible writing. Can't wait.
My fav series from the Telltale era
This is a long time coming, why now? People have long forgotten about this game with how long it has taken to release 🤔 let's hope the wait has been worth it.
Actually just marked this off my backlog after like a decade. I'm officially hyped for the sequel now.
@Dragonaged same, dude, exactly the same. I just couldn't get enough of Fables, and I just can't recommend enough the graphics novels.
Wolf was my favourite Telltale game, so it goes without saying that I'll be playing the sequel day one.
This and the 1st Walking Dead season are the best TT games to date, I would say Wolf just edges it because I knew so little going in and it was a really enjoyable story!
Don't sleep on the 1st one folks
It's a shame Telltale's Game of Thrones never got a second season, I enjoyed that one.
Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2 are my favorite Telltale works, but nothing in their catalogue comes close to matching Wolf Among Us's atmosphere. I still have serious reservations about this sequel though.
Didn't telltale went bankrupt like 10 years ago? did they bought out? I think these kinda of games feel little dated by now
Oh hey we played it around the same age
And yeah that’s an understandable concern
Good piece
I loved this game so much I ended up reading through all the comics, can't wait for this!!
I’ve been looking forward to this for years. They better not disappoint.
I got the Telltale Batman game with PS Plus, when I bought my PS4 a bit later in it's life cycle. I pre-ordered the second season immediately. Then I got to this one - absolute cult classic, can't wait for the second part and will probably buy the remaster. The Expanse however was quite disappointing (even not considering it is my favorite show) you can get "the good" ending very effortlessly, the little expansion for the pre-orderer had interesting premise but was ultimately too short. Hope they don't drop the ball on this one.
I'm starting to think that this might have to be my first narrative only? game, I've heard good things about TellTale and about this game but I was always iffy about things being lost in translation. It's tempting to try Batman too, there's already familiarity there, I love the character and everything about his world.
@NitrousX I checked after you said that and found Batman in my library, it must have come in through +Plus. It was way down the list on one of my old accounts. I searched by most recent. It's dangerous going that far through Plus+ there are too many games worth playing and never enough time to do it. It says added 2018.
@GirlVersusGame Backlog creep is a thing unfortunately... But try Batman, it was god enough they even continued the story in a spin-off comic, and the final 2 chapters of season two are actually some of the best old TellTale did IMHO, as they play vastly different based on choices (not the usual "illusion of choice" way that leads to the same conclusion).
@NitrousX I just watched Knightfall, it's a three part DC animated movie based on the graphic novel. Part one came to Prime for rent/buy this week and two is this year with part three coming next year. The game is tempting. He's my favorite super hero, he has money but he can still break bones with his bare fists, it's hard not to like him. He was also my first English speaking movie, first graphic novel too. First movie tie-in novel, maybe he'll be my first TellTale type game too.
