Who is Shaun Escayg and why should you care?

Well, he’s the Creative Director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy who’s currently working on an unannounced Naughty Dog project.

Okay, let’s rewind first: Escayg left the Sony studio to head-up Square Enix’s efforts with Marvel’s Avengers. Once that endeavour infamously crashed and burned, he returned to the Doghouse where he’s been in situ ever since.

Here’s the crucial detail: earlier this year, he posted a picture of a distinctly Uncharted-esque location in Trinidad & Tobago, with the caption ‘research’. This was on his personal Instagram account, but the prying eyes of fans are never far away.

This week, Naughty Dog confirmed that in addition to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet – which will get its full reveal in 2027 – the studio is cooking a couple of The Last of Us projects.

Now, asked specifically about Escayg’s project, industry snoop NateTheHate2 has confirmed on X (or Twitter) that it’s not The Last of Us related.

So, we’re stacking several rumours precariously on top of each other here, but the takeaway is that Escayg is probably working on a new Uncharted.

NateTheHate2 – who’s notorious for a number of accurate gaming leaks – said he’d heard “minor details” about Escayg’s project but “nothing I’m prepared to share at the present”.

It’s not a lot to go on, but could Naughty Dog have a third title in the works? It’d certainly make up for a particularly dry generation from the Sony first-party.
