Control Resonant PS5

Control Resonant launches on PS5 today, and developer Remedy is already addressing feedback it's received from critic reviews and early access players.

While the game has been received incredibly well, a lot of reports covering the opening hours of the experience mention difficult combat where you die way too easily. I can agree with this as, I started Control Resonant last night and found it surprisingly tough in the first open area. It's also a criticism many reviews and early access players have brought up.

To address the difficulty, Remedy has pushed a hotfix live (which you won't need to download) that makes some tweaks and changes to enemy health and your weapons. As per the official website post, here's what the team has done:

  • Reduce the base health and required Falter (stun) level of most enemies, as well as the Dancer and Deserter bosses
  • Increase maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength
  • These strength increases follow a curve, with progressively larger increases towards the end. The more upgrades you have, the more damage you deal

"We strongly believe these changes will improve the gameplay feel and flow while still providing a challenge," the Finnish outfit said, having admitted enemies can feel "too tanky" during the opening hours of the game.

Remedy then highlights the Assist Mode it provides in-game to tune the difficulty to exactly where you want it, and is also making it easier to change your loadout and build. More "Reset Items" will be available at vendors, and the cost of respeccing is reduced after applying the hotfix. Also, the first boss you fight, The Artist, now drops two Reset Items, not just one.

There are also some text changes and UI updates to make things like multipliers and build power easier to understand.

"We will closely follow your feedback and make further adjustments as needed. Enjoy the game, take your time, explore, and let us know what you think," Remedy concluded.

With the PS5 hotfix already live on launch day, one of the main issues with the game has already been fixed. Of course, even if it hadn't been, we'd still recommend you play the sequel. In our Control Resonant PS5 review, we awarded the Dylan-led title an 8/10 and said:

"Control Resonant is an impeccably confident and tantalising sequel that has all the hallmarks of a Remedy classic. It’s endlessly stylish and playful; it looks gorgeous, especially on the PS5 Pro, and it manages to address many of the woes that I had with the original Control."
