Onimusha: Way of the Sword May Be Another PS5 Capcom Hit as It Crosses 2 Million Wishlists 1

Between Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Monster Hunter Stories 3, Japanese publisher Capcom has had a super strong 2026, and it looks like its final big game launch of the year could round things out very nicely indeed.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to arrive on 4th September, 2026, and while there have been remasters and other offshoots over the years, it will be the first major game in the series since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.

It seems the appetite for a new entry is pretty high, as Capcom has revealed the game has crossed over 2 million wishlists:

Obviously, wishlist numbers don't directly correlate to sales, so this doesn't really guarantee anything. That being said, it does tell us the game is trending well among consumers prior to launch, so it's likely to get off to a good start.

There could be many reasons for the game's wishlist momentum. Onimusha fans who are eager to see the series return, those who enjoy action games in general, and people who have, justifiably, a lot of trust in Capcom may all decide Way of the Sword is worth their attention.

The playable demo certainly helps, and while it drew some criticism for being on the easy side, Capcom has since assured the full game will be tougher.

For what it's worth, assistant editor (and big Onimusha fan) Robert Ramsey played the demo to death back in June and came away feeling very positive.
