'State of Decay 3 Is Still Coming': Undead Labs Commits to PS5 Survival Game As It Exits Xbox 1

I wrote an article just two weeks ago headlined ‘State of Decay 3 Looks to Have All the Ingredients for Success’.

I’m genuinely shocked to see Xbox effectively wash its hands of dev Undead Labs, then, because I think there’s a good chance this title blows up.

My hypothesis in the article was “survival games are catnip for gamers” – how often do we see these types of emergent, semi-social experiences explode on the regular?

Anyway, in a statement on Discord, the Washington-based studio has confirmed what was announced earlier: that it’s “transitioning out of Xbox”.

There’s still no word on who its new owner will be, but for all the reasons I mentioned above, I’m not surprised to see it get picked up. This game is going to be fairly big, I think.

“We’ve seen your support and are so grateful that the community has our backs,” the studio said. “We’re here because of you. The team is working hard and our commitment to this community has never been stronger. More news soon. Survivors stick together.”

I’d imagine complicated contracts are being signed, and that’s why we’re not getting word on where Undead Labs is going just yet.

None of this should affect the title, however, which was always planned for the PS5. Here’s hoping for a speedy transition, so it can focus on finishing the game.
