Also worth considering that if Microsoft can get their head out of their a** long enough to not f*** up the Helix and Nintendo continues their streak of offering a very comparable experience to the high-end consoles, the PS6 is going to be a much harder sell for the casual audience that flipped a gasket over Blops2. Not to mention the price can easily kill their market potential therein.

@ShadowRJ the cumulative effect of no discs, hardly any single player games, $1000+ console and Sonys relentless drive into live service (which can be played anywhere) will have a massive impact on sales. Just because we haven’t seen an instant impact people are fooled into believing this is a storm in a tea cup.

No one is going to see backlash over the discs any time soon. People seem to be expecting an instant response, and they shouldn’t. The real story here is that there’s a 10% drop year-over-year. Digital, physical…doesn’t matter. People are buying less of the thing in general, in a market where they’re already cutting jobs and re-structuring.

I wouldn’t expect Sony to feel any fallout of the disc situation until the ps6 gen if they do at all.

Forza Horizon 6 is about to get it's release date on PS5 announcement at gamescom so expect to see it shoot up the charts even further by years end.

@RoomWithaMoose I don't have faith in any of them to be honest. I'm expecting Xbox to release the most powerful but most expensive machine, Nintendo will continue with the switch 2 and will get left behind quicker than the others. Sony will be somewhere in the middle but still prohibitively expensive and after an underwhelming gen.
All that to say, all the platforms are going to struggle next gen but that it will mostly come down to cost for the consumer.
I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect to upgrade immediately and the cross gen will be the longest yet so I'm not too concerned.

Both the PS5 and Switch 2 are selling very well especially given the fact that thanks to AI their prices have gone in the wrong direction.

I am glad to see 007 First Light on the list. And I am still disgusted by seeing a bunch of slop at the top.

@PuppetMaster you can play those on Switch 1. Unless you don't have a Switch 1, then buying a Switch 2 would make sense

@Jacko11 I just think it's funny, to be honest. I get the mindset: their jobs are to review games, so they always want something new. A simple port isn't for them - they're for casual gamers who just want to revisit an old classic. Even the price isn't so crazy when you realize that all of the CoD catalog has a high sticker price, but the games are on sale more often then not.

@AI-Generation Not true. PlayStation makes most of its money on software sales, so there's a clear incentive to sell more consoles, not fewer. That's why consoles traditionally become cheaper over each generation.

Hardware prices have risen across the board as a result of global economic conditions, not corporate greed. In fact, Sony probably has a lower margin in console sales now than it had at the beginning of the PS5 generation.

@ShadowRJ The PS6 will be a slow burn for a number of reasons, of which the end of physical media is negligible. If it were to be substantial, the effects should have been very much apparent by now. Why not??

@JustBusiness I doubt it, and doubt Switch 2 will beat Switch 1 in terms of lifetime sales as well.

I love my Switch 2 to death, but it's more of an incremental leap than a generational one. Am I happy to play Lies of P and Oblivion on a device that doesn't sound like a jet engine taking off (as with my Ally)? Absolutely. Do I feel like the Switch 2 is a necessary piece of hardware in the gaming ecosystem? Not really.

With that being said, Ocarina remake will be the litmus test to see if there's a surge of console sales, even with a bad economy and price increases.

@Art_Vandelay I don’t see why it would be apparent now at all. Games are still coming out physically. People who want physical discs aim PS5 probably already have a PS5. People who just bought the PS5 may or may not be interested in buying discs for the thing (it will vary on a gamer by gamer basis).

We won’t be able to see what affect if any it has on PS6 until the PS6 is something real and not a concept.

@JustBusiness in this economy without a Covid boost? Going to be hard. The Switch was extremely cheap which helped a lot during covid where families owned 3-4 of the devices. I don't see that advantage with the Switch 2, unless they make a Switch 2 Lite that is over 150 bucks cheaper.

@ShadowRJ Agreed, I am someone who has been vocally against Sony stopping discs in the future but I have still been buying digital and physical PS5 games. I don't plan on ever buying a PS6.

@PanFriedSoup I’m so disappointed with the Switch 2, the hardware is fine but there just isn’t the killer games of the first. Donkey Kong is fine but nothing like the original switch. Odyssey and BOTW were just amazing, hopefully when they finally let us see a new 3d Mario it’s been worth the cost.

Just proves that the vast majority couldn't care less about the no disc issue and are probably not even aware of it. Whiny gamers can't seem to see that.

@BecauseBecause this, I stopped purchasing Sony affiliated games (their studios, their partnerships, etc) and I won't be buying a PS6.

Plan is to have a big enough backlog to weather the wait between getting a PC.

Never thought Sony would kill 30ish years of gaming for me, but wow did they ever.

@Miscellaneous_Me I am fortunate enough to already own a PC that's as good as a PS5, but I just prefer gaming on a console. I bought it mainly to develop games so I don't really want to work on it for hours and then game on it, but unless I buy another console like Switch 2 when discs are halted, I'll just have to game on PC.

I stopped caring about what gamers wanted after they let lgbtq and political agenda into our gaming industry. Like i respect everyones feelings but i dont want it shoved down my throat when i play my games. I used to play destiny 2 but it seemed like every character had to be every letter of something besides being straight. Like i didnt care for it but i guess some people do but you see it mostly in western games. Fallout 4 also kinda had this problem. You play some jrpg like persona or fire emblem and you rarely see it at all.
