Geoff Keighley kicked off his stacked Summer Game Fest show with Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the fan-favourite Code Veronica that's due out on PS5 next year.
The trailer for the survival horror title was presented as gameplay from a first-person perspective, but apparently, this was done as a deliberate misdirect to keep people guessing.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi revealed this in a Q&A session with members of the press, where he also confirmed that RE Veronica will be played from a third-person viewpoint throughout, with no first-person segments.

Apparently, the scene in the trailer isn't necessarily from early in the story, and it'll play out differently in the final game.
Obviously, the Resident Evil series has toyed with both first and third-person viewpoints in the past, with some more recent entries giving you the option to choose. Resident Evil Requiem has two playable protagonists, and they're each designed to be played with one or the other.
The original Code Veronica also has two player characters, but it seems Veronica will be sticking to just third-person.
As Hirabayashi notes, Capcom loves surprises, so it's pretty fun the publisher decided to present the trailer the way it did.
