Uh oh, we're getting close to the video game silly season, and summertime rumours are starting to emerge.
One new whisper on the wind is that of a possible remake of Rayman Legends, Ubisoft's vibrant side-scrolling platformer.
This comes from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, who is generally pretty reliable. Speaking on a recent episode of the website's podcast, he casually mentions the remake's existence.
Henderson says he's been hearing "quite a lot of positive things about the Rayman Legends remake", reiterating later that the project is in progress.
"I think we'll hear about it this summer," he says. "But who knows? They're doing the Rayman Legends remake, so we'll see. But like I said, they're bringing everything back from that game."
He sounds fairly certain the game is coming, then, and says a reveal this summer is a possibility. That makes sense given June is around the corner, and that's typically when we see a lot of announcements from major publishers.
We have heard previously that there are more than one Rayman projects in development right now, and we wouldn't be surprised to learn one of them is a remake of Legends, which was critically and commercially successful.
It originally launched in 2013 for PS3 (and Vita!) and came to PS4 the following year.
If you ask us, Rayman Legends is a game that really doesn't need a remake; it's available to play on modern systems, and it still looks great and plays wonderfully.
If the remake does exist, it'll be very interesting to see what it adds to get people on board once again.
Would you like to see Rayman Legends return in a remake? Tell us in the comments section below.

No real need for this is there?
A 4k update is basically the same thing am I wrong??
Obviously just looking for dollars for an update!
I would love it if they combined it with Origins.
This sounds... unnecessary! Sounds more like a rerelease and wires got crossed by a leaker once again
Why on earth would they remake Legends? Surely, it's just a remaster, right?
Why? The game already looks really gorgeous.
Honestly, this wasn't the Rayman game I was hoping to get remade. Rayman 2 I thought was the logical choice in that regard.
@AdamNovice Legends already has most of Origins' levels in it
@AdamNovice there's a double pack that released on PS3 with both of them on the 1 disc, why they didn't just port THAT to PS4 I dunno.
This is unnecessary. I mean, certainly do a ps5 upgrade, but you don't need to remake it.
I have played through Rayman Legends on 3 separate platforms, including getting the platinum on PS4 which takes forever because of "levels of awesomeness" which take forever to get enough points. I really do not understand what a remake could possibly add to this game.
Utterly disappointing if this one is already getting remade. It’s far too soon.
@somnambulance It's been 13 years since Legends came out. There's reasons to be apprahensive over the weekend, but 13 years is a fairly appropriate time for a game to be remade.
@MS7000 Ha that was exactly my first thought - I platted it on both PS3 + 4 and whilst the MP section was fun, getting to that final level of awesomeness only being able to do 2 challenges a day was a joke!
Awesome game - but why this needs to be rehashed again is beyond me. Anything they do to it would be completely unnecessary.
Why not make a completely new game?! I know Ancel isn't there any more but I'm sure they could come up with something without him.
Ubisoft a company bereft of any original ideas it seems.
A remake feels unnecessary, but I would be glad to play it again. I did the Plat on both PS4 and Vita, since I loved this game so much.
A simple modern console port with 120fps and new trophies as a free or cheap upgrade, however, would be amazing.
If true this will be the most pointless remakes in my opinion.
Why? It plays great and looks great. Possibly the most pointless remake in history. Can’t they just make a new Rayman instead?
Would actually prefer a new 3D platformer, but I’ll take any Rayman game at this point.
That game is incredible. My kids still play it all the time, and was the youngest first game that really clicked.
@ShadowRJ we can agree to disagree on that one. The original doesn’t feel dated at all to me. I suppose I’ll wait to see the trailer before I make judgements.
@bring_on_branstons I feel like everyone who worked for platinum in Rayman Legends was at it for a while unless you were godly at the challenges. Could never get those diamond cups, could only ever seem to get the gold ones at best.
I love Rayman Legends and I love remakes and I cannot even pretend to be excited about this. It's fine as it is. Make a new Rayman. What is a remake possibly going to achieve?
Would be so excited if this was Origins. Legends was great too, but as everyone is pointing out it’s already available and really doesn’t need a remake. Origins is stuck on PS3 and massively under appreciated imo.
Hot take - I think it’s the best 2d platformer of all time. Would love a port/remake to see if it’s as good as I remember it. Absolutely loved it back on PS3.
Sounds unnecessary, but I'd buy it with given Ubisoft's recent business strategies. If they don't start taking actual risks they're never going to save themselves, these ultra safe choices are what's keeping people from buying their games.
My first reaction is also why? I mean by all means port the game to PS5, but I don't know how you remake a game that is already a high def 2D game. And if the answer is make it 3D instead, well, naaaaaaaaah.
@wildcat_kickz some reviewers might get offended by the costumes for betilla and the other fairies.
Plus there was a bunch of content cut from the game.
Why? A remake isn't neccesary, just don't a sequel to it, or is it the fact that would involve some creativity that's the stumbling block.use the template to make new things not shine up something that already exists. Stinks of a lack of ability to choose a remake of something that doesn't need it over a new iteration.
I can't imagine why, or how, you would even remake this game? I could see a 4K remaster, but that's not a remake.
I'm not certain but I thought there were rumors of a Rayman 1 remake some time ago. Maybe he got it mixed up with that. Maybe he meant remaster? Or maybe it is a remake......but in 3D. That'd be a bold move 😂
I'd guess the point is to bring back the UbiArt engine with fancier features, but basically every game made using that engine is still a stunner over a decade later so I don't think any of them really benefit from a remake. On that topic, I'd love a new Child of Light.
I hope they take the opportunity to expand the Back to Origins to include the full game, making it a proper 2-in-1, and maybe change the hubworld. Those 2 things would make it worthwhile.
@The_ghostmen Even so, that doesn't seem like enough to warrant a remake. The art-style isn't something that ages the same way a 3d game would, so I can't really see a new version looking "better." You could easily make changes to the things you brought up without needing to do the whole game over.
If this does indeed exist, I really wish they yeet the leaderboards-related challenge levels into the void as that aspect of the game got over-run by cheaters real fast and never got fixed.
That's pretty much all I would want from a remake of Legends
But I would personally rather see Origins get a remaster to bring it up to parity with the already existing remaster of Legends.
Oh and obviously release said hypothetical remaster of Origins on the Switches.
It really doesn't need a remake. It still looks great
The original could be released today and would be an incredible looking, pixel perfect platformer. Played it on Vita and now have it on Switch as well. Really doesn't need to be remade.
Not required....
What a breathtakingly pointless idea if true. This game is timeless, accessible and cheap. Rayman may not have legs but Ubisoft seem determined to kneecap him regardless. Just give the Mario + Rabbids devs the keys to kingdom for God’s sake.
Platinumed this back on PS4, ages ago.
A remake? Not really needed. If anything just give us something like
"Rayman Legends: Rearmed Edition"
Double res, double fps, new content, minor improvements / QOL.
Ez GG!
So dumb that they cancelled the Rayman 1 remake but seemingly go ahead with a remake of the one game in the series that doesn’t need one.
Why not just make a new game?
So instead of a Rayman remake, we get a Rayman legends remake?
I would have preferred the remake for the 3D games. I played a bit of 2. But not 3. So probably would be cool if they combined the stories of 1, 2 and 3 and remake it as a 3D game. With gameplay being similar to 2 and 3. Idk. I just never played it. Maybe give us a release of rayman 2 and 3. So I can try it.
What for?! The game is still glorious as is!!!
As pointless a project as I've ever heard of. The game looks amazing, because its art style is incredibly well realised. a 4K re-release is the only real thing it could possibly need, and that´s a patch, not a remaster.
Honestly it makes me a little miffed to even read about this, because if Ubisoft has any resources to put into the Rayman-franchise, they should already be neck-deep in development of a third game in the Origins-series, not remastering the second one.
wiiU version remains nices with the touchscreen, and agreed with above... seems like a superflous remake
