PS5's Superhero Fighter Is Taking Over Marvel Comics 1

The world of Sony’s superhero fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be fleshed out with a 10-hour story mode, presented like an interactive comic book with battles in between.

But if you really want to delve deeper into the game’s lore, Marvel is plotting a one-shot comic book which will expand on some of the release’s squads, and its universe at large.

Marvel Tokon: First Strike #1 has been written by Steve Orlando, Tom Waltz, and Josh Trujillo, with art from Bruno Büll, Áthila Fabbio, and Ryusei Yamada.

For fans, the comic book promises to delve deeper into the motives of the game’s villain, The Promoter, a trippy galaxy-hopping Master of Ceremonies who organises a high-stakes competition – with the fate of the world on the line.

The one-shot will be available with two covers, featuring art by Juan Frigeri and Ryan Stegman or Michele Bandini.

In addition, Marvel will be promoting the new game across 20 different comic books this year, with variant covers for series like the Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, and Captain America all lined up over the coming months.

The confirmed variants so far are as follows, with more to come as the full roster is revealed:

  • Amazing Spider-Man #35 (Spider-Man)
  • Avengers Armageddon #3 (Star Lord)
  • Captain America #14 (Captain America)
  • Doomquest #4 (Doctor Doom)
  • Inglorious Force #8 (Ms Marvel)
  • Iron Man #8 (Iron Man)
  • Marc Spector: Moon Knight #7 (Ghost Rider)
  • Uncanny X-Men #33 (Danger)
  • Wolverine #26 (Wolverine)
  • X-Men #35 (Magik)
  • X-Men #36 (Storm)

If that’s not enough Marvel x PS5 for you, remember, as reported yesterday, Wolverine #25 will also have a variant cover promoting Insomniac’s new game, which itself is paying homage to a classic 1991 comic.

Will you be picking up the new one-shot to learn more about Tokon’s lore? Or perhaps one of these variant covers featuring the game? Let us know below.
