A project that's looked increasingly promising every time we've laid eyes on it, Morbid Metal has finally reached its early access release on Steam.
So why are we writing about it? Well, the simple truth is that it's shaping up to be an absolute banger, and now that it's out on PC, we're praying that word of a console port will surface in the (relatively) near future.
It's interesting, because Morbid Metal is actually published by Ubisoft — but unlike the vast majority of the company's catalogue, the game doesn't fall under its multi-studio umbrella.
Instead, the extremely flashy action title is being developed by Cologne-based developer Screen Juice. The hope, then, is that Morbid Metal will end up being a hit on PC, and Ubisoft will push for a multiplatform launch down the line.
Right now, the game offers a ten-hour campaign that's "infinitely" replayable thanks to procedurally generated levels and encounters. Plus, there are three different playable characters to master, and there are roguelike elements at play.
It's also been met with "very positive user" reviews right off the bat. It only has a few hundred of them at the time of writing this article, but it's an undoubtedly strong start.
To be clear, Screen Juice hasn't made any kind of commitment to console development yet. In fact, it sounds like the plan is to keep Morbid Metal in early access for quite some time.
The team writes: "We believe our core gameplay is already sharp; however, we want to work with the player community, as we believe your feedback will help us fine‑tune the experience and push Morbid Metal to its full potential."
It continues: "We already have a Year One [early access] roadmap, but we’re keeping the timeline flexible so we can integrate community feedback along the way."

I wonder how Ubisoft is going to ruin this game.
I think the name sounds cool.
@SoulofBashar Thats for the Ubisoft Connect team to figure out.
@FR4M3 There's a well known Swedish Black Metal band called Morbid, the founder was also a vocalist for the Norwegian Black Metal band MayheM. His passing was what brought a lot of attention to Norwegian Black Metal, Morbid too. I'd be surprised if no one else makes the connection, we'll see.
