Starfield Tops Weekly US Sales Charts Despite ‘Disappointing’ Early Estimates 1

Starfield soared to the top of the US sales charts for the week ending 11th April according to Circana, with 95% of its full-price sales coming courtesy of the new PS5 version. The game officially launched on 7th April for Sony’s console.

The result follows recent reporting from Alinea Analytics, which estimated soft worldwide sales for the port of around 140k units spanning the full week after release.

It’s worth pointing out that while Circana’s metrics are much more reliable, this new data doesn’t necessarily disprove the aforementioned estimates.

As Kotaku points out, competition wasn’t particularly stiff for Starfield during its launch week, with the free-to-play, digital-only Pokémon Champions being its only real rival. And Nintendo doesn’t even report digital data to Circana.

So, it would have been a tough week for the Bethesda release if it hadn’t topped the charts.

But it finished above chart topping stalwarts MLB The Show 26 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, so it’s clear Starfield moved some units in the US. It’s the first time the title has led weekly sales since its original release all the way back in 2023.

As we mentioned above, this new information from Circana doesn’t necessarily disprove Alinea Analytics’ estimates, but it does give us a bit more context. Obviously we don’t know what kind of expectations Microsoft has on the port, but it can’t do much more than top the charts.

Describing it as a “solid debut”, analyst Mat Piscatella said it's ultimately far too early to draw any conclusions about the title’s performance just yet.

“We’ll have to see how its momentum carries over into future weeks,” he noted.

Perhaps it’ll get some of said momentum when it patches up those widely reported crashing issues, which didn’t affect our Starfield PS5 reviewer – but has halted our very own Robert Ramsey in his tracks.
