Resident Evil Requiem has been a huge success for Capcom already, and Sony's latest PS Store download charts only serve to echo that fact.
The new horror action title is number one on both the North American and European PS5 charts, beating out February's other new releases like Nioh 3, Reanimal, and the shadow-dropped God of War: Sons of Sparta.
This is particularly impressive because Requiem launched on 27th February, meaning it only had two days to make an impact on the charts.
Elsewhere, Reanimal did make it into the top 10 in both regions, while Sons of Sparta managed 10th place in North America.

The top 10s are otherwise made up of familiar favourites, like annual sports games, ARC Raiders, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and yes, Grand Theft Auto V.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is king of the PS4 download charts, and ruling the roost for PSVR2 is Alien: Rogue Incursion.

Sons of Sparta doing surprisingly well considering its scope and reviews.
Requiem has been huge, likely helps that February, often a very stacked month in recent years has, has been a bit quiet for big games this year.
I'm sure it's a great game but can't really justify £65 on 10-15hr games personally.
I said this before the game came out (check my comments) I said this will be a GOTY contender feels good to be vindicated.
@TheArt That's fair, but if it is 10 to 15 hours and the quality is really high then it deserves my $70, especially for a survival horror game where the pacing is important. Now if it was 4 hours yeah too steep of a cost for sure and I'm more of a quality over quantity type of person.
Wonder if god of war sons of Sparta has cleared 1 million copies yet. Game must be profitable, don't think it had a massive budget.
@TheArt so you take length of a game over the quality of it? Interesting take.....
@TheArt I thought the same but folded , im glad I did , definitely a goty contender , im a cynical , grumpy old man and it takes a lot to impress , but my god, its looks stunning , story is interesting , its epic, boombastic , exciting , tense, scary , gameplay is sublime , and yeah it is only about 15hrs at a push, but what a 15hrs they are.
@TheArt I would rather have a game that's solid with no filler than one that is repetitive and gets boring as it goes on too long personally.
If you are that concerned buy it, complete it quickly and sell or while demands still high
@FuzzieGinge88 bit unfair that fella , not over quality but over length of experience , I understand what hes saying, hes wrong in this case, as was i, but i understand.
@rustym82 resi 9 is not a game that you complete quickly , you take your time soaking in every detail, its not a game you rush through, whats the point in that.
Resident Evil 9 is so much fun, I'm currently at the RPD after a little over 2 hours going after the speedrun trophy and 20 hours total so far, with no sign of me stopping anytime soon
@lazarus11 it's not what I'd do. I'm taking my time (mixture of how I like to play games and lack of time) but if this guy is concerned only with length and not quality that would be my suggestion to them.
@carlos82 youre at RPD after 2 hrs.....how ?
@Oram77 well done 👏 👏 👏 😂
@TheArt i almost didn't buy it for the same reason. Glad i eventually did, what a game!
Cool to see Sons of Sparta doing well which i hope it's not the last 2D GoW game.
Good to see Spidey 2 and GT 7 are still hanging in the top 20 despite they already released 2-3 years ago.
@lazarus11 there’s a trophy for beating the game in 4 hours. To be at RPD in two you pretty much have to blitz everything, run past zombies, know the puzzles. I got it last night in 3 hours. Excellent game
@Zman0069 😂 I'll try that when I finish , im gutted there's no chapter select though or photo mode
@carlos82 Welcome to my world I have completed the game 4 times at this and still can't get enough lol
@TheArt resident evil games have ton of replay value. This is such a weird take when we were spending that much money on these “short” games for over 5 console generations.
@lazarus11 if you play it on easy it’s an absolute joke in difficulty. The game even heals you on its own so you can pop that trophy by not using meds
@Oram77 vindicated? not even close to to goty nominations yet just biased because you like re games
@lazarus11 run a lot and only engage with enemies when absolutely necessary. That and on my first run, I spent a fair bit of time in the care home after clearing the zombies, just to familiarise myself with the critical path
@Bsb56 We'll talk again in December ok?
@Oram77 I can see myself going through it several more times. I played through RE4R about 3 or 4 times in the weeks building up to release. I can't get enough of these games
@carlos82 RE4og/remake will always be the kings for replayabilty 9 doesn't reach their level but who knows maybe DLC down the road could change that, speaking of which there's meant to be already DLC is "advanced stages" so we could be getting some soonish..
RE requiem had an update patch earlier.
Check your in game HDR settings (the chess board squares), as Im sure they have altered the calibration and mine was now completely out on the first section.
@TheArt I respect that opinion on a game that is just meant to be played once. On RE games the joy is replaying, finding all lore, speed runs, unlocks to help on differnt runs. If this kind of game is not for you understood but I'll put 40ish hours easy into this.
I prefer this kind of game over one that takes 35 hours to complete one imo. All finances are not the same but if you have never really tried a RE game I would highly suggest putting on wishlist and hit purchase when on your preferred price.
I'm happy to see nioh 3 there
@TheArt If you really really want a bang for your bucks with tons of hours of playing time then i reccomend buying a fighting game.
With fighting games, you can replay it as many times as you want until you sick of it, became a top player, or the devs completely stop the suppport. SF 6 for example, i bought it on day 1 at $60 and these past 3 years i've poured more than 1500 hours with the game either enjoying single player contents, compete in tourney, or just grinding and playing online matches.
Heck, with SF 6 or Fatal Fury: CotW, you could compete and win a $1-1.5 Million prize money at Capcom Cup or SNK World Championship. With those money, you don't need to feel worry if your €65 is justify or not hehe 😁
@Zman0069 really 😂 ive played it on normal , i might give it a go on the hardest level after I finish it, i couldnt cope with the stress of those ink ribbons on my first go though , i dont really think its hard on normal to be fair , the other resi games seemed more difficult , probably because Leon is a 50 year old beast 😂
@Rich33 yeah downloaded it last night , I think it looks even better , seems crisper and there was a slight shimmer effect on certain objects in dark areas which seems to have gone, and reflections seem clearer
I'll take 15 hours of quality over bad filler.
@TheArt buy a disc copy and sell it week one. You’ll get at least 50% of your money back.
@TheArt It sounds short but honestly whenever an RE has gone over this kind of length in a single playthrough it kinda starts to outstay it's welcome, the games honestly just work better when they're a bit shorter.
There's also always a bunch of stuff to unlock and collect as it's intended for you to do multiple playthroughs of the game, including at least one harder difficulty that changes item and enemy placements that basically makes it a new playthrough.
Even from the very first game, RE's have never meant to be a one and done game, and they are honestly at their worst if you insist on playing them that way.
Woah all of your comments noted but I might just wait for a sale. 😁
If Nioh 3 sold over a million, and RE Requiem sold over 5 million, it is safe to say Sons of Sparta also sold over a million but less than 5 million
@Bsb56 to be fair it will take a lot for games to beat it in nominations, it really is that good , finally a piece of media made for fans of the series , capcom know what theyre doing, at some parts if i was american id be going woop woop hell yeah , but im not, so i just said bravo sir ,bravo
Just started playing RE9 yesterday. Really great so far. Capcom cannot miss.
