Resident Evil Requiem Surpasses an Astonishing 5 Million Sales in Its First Week

wow, congrats.

Just got to what I'm pretty sure is the last Area last night. Deserves the sales, what a game.

The game is so so close to being a master piece it only needs a couple tweaks to get there, but seriously this is one of the best RE games ever made (right up there with RE1R and RE4), and this is coming from someone who has the platinum already and done 4 play throughs already. Special shoutout to Grace's voice actress who I think is going to win the VA award this year. I also think she is the best new Character Capcom has done since introducing Sheva in RE5. oh and playing first person with Leon is actually a lot of fun!

I heard physical copies are sold out everywhere. But with this result i guess there will be DLC's / Gold edition.

Anyway. Congrats to Capcom and RE team 🍻

I know it's Resident Evil, and this success doesn't happen for just any game, but I hope the "10h long game for 70$ = multi-millions" doesn't end up being an "inspiration" for other devs/publishers...

Crazy init, make a good single player game backed by years of established trust in your products and the people will come

@Shinnok789 I see people getting hung up on the length of the game it took me 10 hours (on standard classic) for my first play through and while I wanted more I was still satisfied with the sheer quality the game provided, but hey that's just me.

I'm kind of saving it for this weekend but I loved the couple hours I did get to play yesterday. Now this is exactly what I wanted more of when it comes to Resident Evil.

It is really good though, better then 7 & 8 imho.

Thoroughly deserved, I finished it yesterday and thought it was great with lots to appreciate for long term fans. It's certainly amongst my favourite entries and the best of the recent new games

Some get hung up on length but I'd rather have the 11 hours it look me be all worthwhile than 70 hours where I'm bored half the time. Not to mention that I'm already replaying it, so that play time number is only going up

i think streamer/youtube culture contributes a lot to how fast (popular) games sale too

Incredible sales numbers. I'll hold off for a Gold/Deluxe edition though.

@Oram77 Not just you, obviously, but it doesn't change the cold fact that it's not a very good deal.
One could say "you pay for quality" - yeah, high quality is also present in 20-30h long games for the same price.

@Shinnok789 But just like many other RE titles there is replaybility, like me example I have played through 4 times trying out different weapons and completeing challanges, so the content/length is there just maybe people need that frame of mind.

I am still in 4-5 hours in but Grace is awesome. She is going to be my beloved there with Jill&Leon. You can feel the horror in every line she delivers. Great work.

Another thing is I have yet to feel the overwhelming positivity about it while it's definetely good, hope it happens at some point.

It's probably my second favorite RE game after RE4 Remake.

@Shinnok789 20-30 hours? Bruh, this is a survival horror game, not RPG or open world games. So 10-12 hours (i heard some people needs 15 hours to finish) campaign is quite long and comparable to previous main RE games.

Beside, the game have pretty good replayability with higher difficulty and unlocked contents like concept arts, costumes, and weapons.

I got the feeling Capcom will add free Mercenaries mode too.

How scary is it? Could it be played on a dark night when you’re home alone? Asking for a friend who completed Village and Resi 4 but tends to shy away from the horror genre and scares very easily.

N.i.c.e. Resident requiem is a excellent game.Resident evil is the king of horror games I been a fan since ps1 days and wow the graphics have gotten better. It's like playing a horror movie the gameplay.the protagonist the story I'm top notch.word up son

@GeeEssEff For someone who scares easily, I can't recommend it. It leans into some Resi 7 type horror in some sections.

Single player gaming is dead!

@GeeEssEff It is pretty scary and jumpy at times but the majority of the scares are more being tense and being underpowered then sheer horror plus Leon's sections provides release where the game becomes pure action.

Will be waiting for a sale like I do with every re game not long enough for the price

Ooooone oooof theeee mmmmost unrealistic scared acting i have ever witnessed in a video game its so bad I find grace annoying more than anything to play with and a slog to go through

@Oram77 My man, just a quick question since you mastered the game already: In regard of RE I'm a casual player who finished the original RE2,3,4 on the PS1/PS2 a long time ago and I've been wanting to go back to the series with requiem.

How hard is the game on the standard modern difficulty (the one without ink ribbon management)? And is the Grace part really survival horror tense or managable?

I can handle some stress during gameplay and I would like to avoid turning it down to easy difficulty.

Quick question about the game without giving away any spoilers. Is there anything that persistently hunts you in this game. Im not a fan of survival horror as it is but I cant handle another MR X that is constantly walking round trying to track you down or the guy in 7 that can literally be anywhere. Puts me too much on edge.

My nostalgic self loves living in a world where capcom are smashing it and Konami are making a strong comeback!

I will pick up Requiem, but as I recently finished Village and I'm currently playing RE 4 Remake, (along with committing a lot of time to other games), I'm going to hold off for now. At least I'll try to hold off...

Don’t forget the bias. The typical gamer buys between 2 and 4 games per year and spends only a low number of hours per week playing them. The number of players willing to spend 30 or even 100 hours for a game is limited, and they focus this huge amount of time on titles like Elden Ring or GTA6.

And if you buy only a handful of games per year, many people can easily spend 80 dollars for each of them.

Many people have more money to buy games than time playing them! For them, RE9 is perfect, with its medium-long playtime, high tension and memorable, eventful story.

Casuals are mad for RE R even my brother bolted thru it two sittings

@DennisReynolds @IntrepidWombat Thanks for the responses! I tried Resi 7 in VR and lasted a grand total of ten minutes and Village took me months to complete playing it in very small doses. I will get Requiem at the first price drop and be sure to only play when the wife is home. I’m getting serious Fomo though as it sounds excellent.

Why not? I much prefer a fantastic 10 hour game that I can replay, than a 70 hour Ubisoft game that involves me going to an area on a map, doing the same 4 things, then repeating somewhere else.

Why is artificial padding the most important metric to players now days? If requiem was padded out to even 30 hours it would lose the tight, packed quality it has achieved. Or if it wasn't padded, and the whole 30 hours was of this quality, it probably would have taken 3 times as long to make. I personally love the current cadence of one great resident evil game of this length every 2 years ( which is has been the trend since resi 2 remake ), than one great game every 6 years.

About length, while I don't have problem with a 10 hours game; RE4 shows that you can do great survival horror at 15+ hours so it's not an outrages request or even remake showed that which I heard added new things etc. and praised even more than Requiem.

Love it. A focused single player game with a quality campaign that is not overly long. Well done Capcom 👏🏼

About length: There are games which are too long in my opinion. Prime example for me is The Last of Us Part 2. As much as I enjoyed the gameplay, there was a lot of repetition. 5 or 10 hours less would be perfect, Part 1 was perfect in that regard.

@Shinnok789 I dunno i heard it was only 8hrs but I've been playing for 9hrs and im half way through , maybe i just play games wrong 😂

@Czar_Khastik I would say the standard option is both tense and managable at the same time, the care centre with Grace is daunting you need to learn when to fight or stealth by. I think modern dif has generious check points but over all Grace's part are definitely RE1/2 coded.

Oh and for people wanting a true challange play the game on insanity as that mode is extremely brutal and unforigiven, god luck...

@Kidfunkadelic83 there is yes , however it isnt constant , certain actions you make at certain points trigger the stalking, and it can last a while

@Shinnok789 Is it a 10 hour game? Every time someone makes a claim like that, I find that it takes me 20 hours to complete those alleged 10 hours. Are you rushing through games?

I loved every minute. I didn't agree with the bit in the review that stated it was leaning more towards leon. They def had a big section each with little smatterings of the other in between...felt 50/50 to me.
Only slight disappointment is you dont keep your upgraded guns for subsequent playthroughs. We will see with future patches and dlc but as of now its just below village and re 4 remake for me

@Max_the_German I was going to mention The Last Of Us Part 2. Just before you head out to California I felt the game was naturally ending at the right time (about 20 hours) the extra 4 hours there probably made the game slightly too long.
Not sure what I would cut, but yes sometimes less is more.

I’ve never had a problem with the length of any of the Resi Evil games, god knows how many times I’ve completed the original trilogy especially 2.

Awesome game from a series that's been consistently great. Well deserved. And it's nice to see an actual success story on here rather than "but it's got 80k concurrent players on steam dB" damage controls.

Managed to play it for a few hours last night and what a game! Been playing the Resident Evil series since PS1 and they’ve all been fantastic. Maybe not 6 as much though 😂

@lazarus11 I do that, drag it out you notice the trophies these speedrunners missed out on and realise they didn’t really explore the already linear enough place….
