Towerborne PS5

Towerborne, an Xbox-published action RPG that's been in early access on Steam since May 2024 — and Xbox since May 2025 — is now heading to PS5 on the 26th February, as part of its full 1.0 release.

It's interesting to note that Towerborne has actually been a free-to-play title up until now, with cosmetic microtransactions funding its ongoing development.

However, its departure from early access sees the game pivot to being a paid product, priced at $24.99 for the standard edition.

"You will own the complete experience permanently, with offline play and online co-op," reads the official announcement from developer Stoic.

In case you're wondering, Towerborne is a side-scrolling brawler-style RPG with loot and character classes. Early access reviews have been a bit hot and cold, which is probably part of the reason why the game's changing its model.

Here's Towerborne's gameplay trailer from back when it launched on Xbox:

When it arrives on PS5, it'll have the following enhancements, as per the aforementioned press release:

Towerborne Full Release Update Patch Notes

  • A complete story & final showdown: We have an updated and complete story, a full narrative arc featuring a major antagonist, new side quests, and an overhauled Bounty Board.
  • Who’s the boss?: we’ve added two new bosses, including the big bad boss (that would be the antagonist we mentioned), lieutenants, and umbra enemies.
  • Fully reworked difficulty system: we’ve added an entirely new difficulty system, a complete rebalance of the game, and a new ‘Brutal’ difficulty for those who enjoy breaking controllers and swearing at their screens.
  • Map it out: we’ve reworked and reimagined the World Map and added a new coastal biome.
  • New Encounters & Combat Challenges: we’ve added new gear and player abilities, a new Forge system with the ability to modify, upgrade, and re-roll stats
  • Is there more? Yes, there’s more! We have new music from the man/myth/maestro Austin Wintory, a bunch of quality of life and bug fixes, no more cosmetic purchasing – you can acquire all cosmetics free through gameplay, we added a TON of new cosmetics, and we’ve included multiple save slots and the ability to import your current character and associated loot.

From where we're sitting, this sounds like a nice, positive step forward — and we're always up for an Austin Wintory soundtrack!
