Namco’s platform fighter The Outfoxies was planned for PS1 some 30 years ago, and that PlayStation port has finally emerged this week courtesy of Hamster’s ongoing Arcade Archives series.
If you’re not familiar with this 1995 title, you may be forgiven.
Designed by Masateru Umeda for the NB-2 arcade hardware, many consider this game to be a precursor to Super Smash Bros, as it assumes a similar perspective and gameplay style.
You’ll pick from one of seven interesting assassin-style characters, and must face off in 2D arenas, using all manner of wacky weaponry in order to murder your rivals.

Among the selectable characters is Professor Ching, a scientist in a wheelchair, and Dweeb, a chimpanzee. So yeah, it’s all a bit out-there.
Despite the game’s legacy, it was a bit of a commercial flop, and that aforementioned PS1 port never materialised. But now you can download it on PS5 and PS4 for up to $16.99/£13.99.
Do keep in mind that the PS5 version is part of the Arcade Archives 2 line, and has additional features compared to the cheaper PS4 edition, including Time Attack mode. There is a fee if you want to upgrade your copy of the game from Sony’s last-gen version.
We’ve wanted to play this game for several years now, so we’re particularly excited to see it get the Arcade Archives treatment. Will you be picking it up? Let us know below.
