Unless another studio receives the license or the IP is bought out entirely, it seems the Mass Effect series is no more.

EA has cancelled the next entry in the RPG franchise and shut down the storied developer making it, BioWare. Now, the publisher is removing its name and branding from other titles, as it was supposedly set to feature in Battlefield 6 soon.

A few weeks ago, community members found Mass Effect decals and weapon skins in the Battlefield 6 files, which all included the N7 branding. As seen in the post below, there were gun camos with the black and red colouring of the N7 armour, a Normandy ship weapon charm, and patches.

These cosmetics were found a few weeks ago, and were presumably going to drop on N7 Day, 7th November 2026, the community event for the Mass Effect series. Maybe they would have been paired with the leaked Mass Effect Universe trailer?

Now, though, those Mass Effect cosmetics are unavailable. It's not immediately clear whether they will return, since they haven't been announced publicly yet. The signs now point to them never being revealed, however.

From the perspective of EA, I suppose it makes sense not to release these cosmetics anymore. It would leave a sour taste for fans, as the franchise has essentially been killed off now, with no new game or developer to take it forward.

We'll see what happens on N7 Day in a few weeks — but I wouldn't expect there to be anything. There could still be a Mass Effect TV series in the works at Amazon, apparently, but that's it.
