Rising Anime Sensation GACHIAKUTA Gets Its Own PS5 Game, And It's Not an Arena Fighter 1

Like the media industry at large, gaming companies are increasingly tapping in to the rising popularity of anime.

That means, while it took way too long for the likes of Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen to get their own video games, Korean studio COM2US has already announced plans to adapt GACHIAKUTA to the PS5.

Admittedly there’s no date attached to this project just yet, but refreshingly it’s not an arena brawler and is instead being described by its maker as a “survival action RPG”. It looks a lot like Monster Hunter to us.

As we alluded to earlier in this article, GACHIATUKA is a relatively new sensation, with the manga debuting as recently as 2022. It’s amassed a whopping 17 volumes since then.

Most pertinently, though, its anime premiered this summer, and aired its 24th episode this weekend.

The plot essentially deals with class divides, as the rich dump “trash” (including criminals) into an exiled area known as The Pit, which is inhabited by monsters.

Upon being falsely accused of murder, protagonist Rudo is cast inside The Pit where he reluctantly agrees to work as a Cleaner, tasked with ridding the area of the abovementioned beasts and enacting revenge on the wealthy who live comfortably above.

There’s very little information on the actual game itself, but it’s easy to see how this could be adapted into some kind of Monster Hunter-style action game.

Here’s the summary shared by the dev:

“Crawl back from the abyss of Hell to change this lousy world! The smash-hit TV anime GACHIAKUTA, based on the original manga written and illustrated by manga artist Kei Urana with graffiti design by Hideyoshi Andou, is officially getting a game adaptation. Check out the trailer featuring in-development graphics – coming soon! More updates are on the way!”

So, not much to go on just yet, but a pleasant change of pace from the typical anime brawlers we tend to get.

Personally, because we’re not all that familiar with the source material, we think we would have preferred a Freedom Wars-style take on Kaiju No. 8 over this.

But if the game has good quality combat, we’re certainly open to learning more.
