The Tokyo-based dev behind bitesized management sims like Game Dev Story has announced its next PS5 and PS4 project, inspired by the long running manga KochiKame.
This isn’t particularly new territory for the dev, as it recently released a dorayaki shop strategy sim featuring Doraemon, so KochiKame seems like a natural fit for the studio.
In KochiKame: Ryo-san's Billion-Yen Beat, you’ll “join Officer Ryotsu Kankichi as he attempts to revitalize a struggling shopping district and build a billion-yen fortune”.

For those not familiar with the source material, the KochiKame manga ran for 40 years, from 1976 through 2016, and amassed 201 volumes along the way. It deals with the misadventures of the abovementioned cop.
Here’s a little more about how the gameplay will be structured:
“Start by earning seed money through gambling and part-time jobs, then construct profitable facilities throughout the shopping district. As the district thrives, more customers arrive and revenue grows – but watch out for the Chief catching you slacking off.”
Various characters from the manga will feature, as will specific storylines from the source material.
There’s no release date attached to this, but you can get a taste of what to expect courtesy of the trailer embedded above.

Played quite a few Kairosoft games on my phone. Don’t realise they had PS versions. Game Dev Story was great fun.
It's really nice to see this developer still be around after all these years, especially since they've kept their own art style and have stuck to the kind of games they've started with.
