Bloober Team's sci-fi horror game Cronos: The New Dawn is getting an update early next year, introducing a brand new difficulty setting to help out struggling players.
The update will add Temporal Diver difficulty, an easier difficulty level than those available in the game right now.
Unfortunately, there aren't really any further details at the moment, but it sounds like this will be a mode for those interested in the story but find the enemy encounters too tough.
Cronos: The New Dawn was "developed to challenge the players", says Bloober Team in the above video, but the new difficulty setting will allow players to "explore the story behind the game in your own pace".

The game did reasonably well in reviews, but seems to have flown under the radar for many. It's a time travel action adventure that has you battling nasty enemies that can merge to become stronger.
Hopefully making the game a little more approachable will widen its appeal a little.
Have you played Cronos: The New Dawn? How did you find the difficulty? Tell us in the comments section below.

@Jammer @Fiendish-Beaver Cronos fans rise up!
I was hoping they would be adding more story, as I'm very interested in where they go after that ending. I thought the difficulty was perfectly fine as it was but I appricate if others are struggling though.
Yes, was hoping they would add an easy mode!
This was my game of the year. I got every single achievement in it, including playing through it on the hardest difficulty, and loved it so much that I bought it again on the PlayStation so that I could pop that Platinum Trophy.
So very much hope that we see a sequel because the game is simple awesome. Don't sit on it, people, go buy it...
I saw your comment to me after I had posted my comment (at 4), @Oram77. I absolutely loved the game. Definitely my Game of the Year...
@Fiendish-Beaver The game deservered way more attention and copies sold, but from the look of things Bloober are happy with the outcome the game got, I think after they are done with Silent hill 1 remake, we could get a Cronos 2 🤞
@Fiendish-Beaver now they have announced that they are going to add a new difficulty I will buy it at some point
I absolutely loved this game. The sound and atmosphere were top notch. I really struggled with this game at first. I’m so glad I didn’t have the choice to change the difficulty because I know myself and I would have put it on easy. By sticking with it and adapting it really made it a worthwhile experience. I do see the reason they are and am glad for anybody that will be picking this up. Cheers to Bloober and hopefully they will be making a sequel or expansion
Really hope this opens the door for more people to give it a try. A truly incredible survival horror game.
Easier? Ah hmm, I would’ve hoped for the opposite. (As a veteran of survival horror, I did not find this game to be difficult.)
Very fun game tho, do give it my recommendation.
Chronos the new dawn is a incredible game it's like dead space 4. More horror games is welcome.word up son
I absolutely love this game but have been stuck in one particularly difficult area (about 8 hours in) so an easier difficulty is welcome. Might try to only use it for that part as the rest has been challenging but doable and felt great.
I might buy it if its a lot easier definitely
This is becoming a trend now where games are adding easy modes after launch, it's happened with Expedition 33, Lies of P, Silent Hill F, Silent Hill 2 and now this.
Surely just adding it at launch would result in more day one buys instead of adding it months later when people will most likely wait for a sale instead.
Great game. Not particularly hard at all, but ammo can get scarce sometimes.Good that maybe a few more people can enjoy it.
I guess you could say the difficulty and scarcity adds to the tension and therefore enhances the game, but the people this will draw in weren't gonna play it as is, so it's a win.
@UltimateOtaku91
Don't forget FF7 Rebirth. Adding the 'Can I Play Daddy' difficulty complete with cheat codes soon.
However you play it, easy or hard, just play it - it’s so, so good.
It's really pleasing to see so many people sing the praises of this game as it really is very, very good. I would encourage as many people as possible to have a go. I found the game to be very rewarding. It's a bit like Resident Evil when it comes to inventory management and exploration, and has elements of Dead Space in it too. So very good...
I cannot stand the flexing attitude of "I don't think it needs this, I found it easy." Did you? Good for you.
For me it's not about difficulty so much as it is about time.
I work full time and have 2 kids and a wife, gaming time is at a premium. I don't want to spend too long retrying stages. This mode being added will result in me finally buying this game
Most people in life remember their challenges not their cakewalks. Josh Strife Hayes has a great video on why easy games are forgettable.
Criminally underrated game.
Cool; now I can finally finish it! I finished everything except the final boss fight. After getting killed by it a billion times, I gave up: I don’t have unlimited time fkr gaming.
Just started playing this a few weeks ago. I really love the atmosphere and setting so far, but the enemies seem a bit spongey. I'll definitely be trying out this difficulty once it's patched in.
@rustym82 - I can understand the devs trying to make the game more broadly appealing to the casual audience, since survivor horror is a criminally niche genre and never sells well in the broad scheme of things. This totally makes sense. But I also wish they’d appeal to both sides of the spectrum because there are also masochists who love dying and overcoming challenge in a genre such as this. Difficulty aside, I also wish the combat had a little more depth, a little more nuance. The morphing mechanic is cool because it incentivizes the player to charge headlong into combats rather than hunkering down in a corner and playing cautiously, but once I figured this out I never felt like I was in any danger of dying any longer. The game gives you plenty of resources, and like any Resident Evil game if you just keep moving you should be ok. I remember dying only… once? to a boss near the end (on hard) when I ran out of ammo, but the combat needed like one more mechanic to be really interesting to me. I still give it about an 8/10 but it doesn’t quite reach the combat depth of say Dead Space.
Please note Im not trying to be condescending here (like, play & enjoy the game however you want to, it doesn’t impact my enjoyment of the game) I’m just saying I wish a harder mode than hard existed, for my liking.
I am so happy with this. Loved it but got stuck because I'm crap and was really hoping they would do this and open this great game up to thousands of others.
Bring it on.
@SeaDaVie 100% agree. FFXVI was easy and I loved every minute of it. Rise of the Rōnin I played on easy, loved every minute of it. And have fond memories of both. Demon’s Souls I have fond memories of too. LifeGirl is just being too broad like they usually do with their comments. I think people would say hard games are more memorable to justify punishing themselves and spending so much time to gitgud. Life has way more nuance and experience is individual. More game makers adding easier difficulty levels allows more people to have their own experiences – a very good thing!
I liked it, but you move with all the agility of Robocop
@Makeshift Pretty sure that's intentional, and personally, it was refreshing to play a modern game without a dodge mechanic for a change. The game does give you ways to mitigate the lower dexterity though. It just takes a bit of adjustment.
@wilky2988 that's fair enough. If you want a harder mode I hope you get it at some point.
I'm more confused by those who wouldn't want games more accessible to the less skilled or the time poor gamers.
If a game has an easy/assist mode/story mode and as a gamer it's not a mode you would use it's weird that anyone would not want it to exist.
@SeaDaVie yes my most memorable games are mostly all walking sims.
Soma, Edith Finch, Gone Home, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Still Wakes the Deep, Ethan Carter etc.
They offered practically no resistance, but had stories that stuck with me.
I've played my share of challenging games, especially back in the 8 bit and 16 bit era - games that would make Souls players cry. Like many "difficult" games they primarily challenge your time and patience. I don’t find that memorable at all, I’m more likely to delete them these days.
Whereas games like Soma, challenge me in different ways. For example challenging how I perceive things such as consciousness. That is far more memorable than banging your head against a wall for hours on end.
@rustym82 - Right I agree with you there, and always support the gamer being able to customize the experience to his/her preference. (And make no mistake about it, I definitely choose the easy/assist mode from time to time, especially in games where I’m not enjoying and/or games where the activity is heavily collectible-based, if that’s what I’m trying to focus on).
Either way, Cronos is a lot of fun and if more people play it from this update, that’s great. I love this genre, and ultimately want to see more games like this made. Also enjoyed these last two games made by Bloober quite a bit (SH2)
@wilky2988 the medium was also really decent in my opinion too. They're on a roll
I had finally given up on the game. I love it and was grinding through it. But then I hit a boss fight several hours in and just could not get past it. So I put it down. Ill be downloading it again very soon with this news in hand.
