City Hunter, the legendary 80s manga from Tsukasa Hojo, is enjoying something of a moment right now.
This month plots the start of a new English language run, courtesy of publisher Kana.
And now SUNSOFT, in conjunction with Red Art Games, has announced plans to localise its licensed 1990 PC Engine tie-in.
The game – a side-scroller – will release on 26 February for the PS5, preserving the experience on modern hardware.

Here’s the story premise, courtesy of the game’s Steam page:
“My name is Ryo Saeba, also known as City Hunter. In this line of work, I’m a well-known professional sweeper. I take on all kinds of jobs, from protecting beautiful women to assassinations. In other words, I’m a cleaner who gets rid of the scum of the city. That means I live a life constantly on the edge. My partner, Kaori, is the younger sister of my deceased best friend, but she never brings in any decent jobs. So, what kind of work is waiting for me today?”
In addition to a worldwide digital release, the game will also be available physically in Europe from 26th September. There’ll also be a Deluxe Edition (limited to 500 copies) and a Collector’s Edition. You’ll be able to pre-order from Red Art Games’ online store starting 26th September.

Was not expecting that at all. City Hunter is such a classic Jump series. I recently picked up the 3 in 1 volume of the manga along with Cat’s Eye.
I don't understand. They say it's a remake, but it looks almost exactly the same as the original game?
Definitely going to GET this game. This coming out again is pretty WILD. But I bet, given its age AND stuff, it'll be quite TOUGH to beat.
After Space Cobra and now City Hunter got a game too?! Definitely not on my bingo card but i love it.
@Questionable_Duck I didn't get that either. I think they're using the word incorrectly. I guess it'll have the improvements you'd expect of an emulated game (save, rewind, etc) and obviously they have "remade" elements with the new languages.
But yeah, I think they're just using the term incorrectly.
@get2sammyb Yeah, that sounds about right. A shame they didn't give it better visuals, though.
The only game in 35 years... so here, exactly the same game... thanks!
The small niche who really care have already played it with the English patch. Of course they all also own an original copy, somewhere.
Well this was unexpected o_o
City Hunter celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year, would have been more fitting to announce this game's re-release then or shortly after. Oh well.
I will pick this up for sure.
Ooh, I might get on this. But this also reminded me I have 3 games ordered from Red Art and completely forgot about them. It’s been a long long time.
