City Hunter Is Back in a Big Way on PS5 as PC Engine Classic Plots Modern Console Comeback 1

City Hunter, the legendary 80s manga from Tsukasa Hojo, is enjoying something of a moment right now.

This month plots the start of a new English language run, courtesy of publisher Kana.

And now SUNSOFT, in conjunction with Red Art Games, has announced plans to localise its licensed 1990 PC Engine tie-in.

The game – a side-scroller – will release on 26 February for the PS5, preserving the experience on modern hardware.

Here’s the story premise, courtesy of the game’s Steam page:

“My name is Ryo Saeba, also known as City Hunter. In this line of work, I’m a well-known professional sweeper. I take on all kinds of jobs, from protecting beautiful women to assassinations. In other words, I’m a cleaner who gets rid of the scum of the city. That means I live a life constantly on the edge. My partner, Kaori, is the younger sister of my deceased best friend, but she never brings in any decent jobs. So, what kind of work is waiting for me today?”

In addition to a worldwide digital release, the game will also be available physically in Europe from 26th September. There’ll also be a Deluxe Edition (limited to 500 copies) and a Collector’s Edition. You’ll be able to pre-order from Red Art Games’ online store starting 26th September.
