Ghost of Yotei PS5

It appears the plot in PS5's Ghost of Yotei has more up its sleeve than just the revenge quest to hunt down the Yotei Six that killed Astu's family.

In a new interview with GamesRadar, the premise Sucker Punch Productions has led with up until now is described as only the "start". Nate Fox said: "We don't want to give away story details, but I can tell you that her quest for revenge is the start – absolutely not the whole thing – but it's a great start."

The comment came after the point about Assassin's Creed Shadows releasing earlier this year, which shares the same setting as Ghost of Yotei and is also a tale of revenge featuring investigative mechanics.

On the similarities, Fox said: "Our game is our game. It features the things we cherish. Our story of revenge is a classic in samurai cinema, but it is just the first step in this long tale of Atsu going from this broken lone wolf to assembling a wolf pack," again hinting there's more to the game than the thirst for revenge.

Creative Director Jason Connell then adds it's just a situation you run into as creatives. "We are huge fans of this stuff, so when other media comes out, whether it's a video game or a film or a TV show, we're kind of happy that it exists because it drives the medium forward."

In a different interview with Game Informer, some clarification surrounding the game's structure is shared. You don't pick to hunt down any of the six members of the Yotei Six in whichever order you like; instead, there's "a linear story structure that we really believe in to make sure that Atsu’s vengeance quest tears at the heartstrings". It's stated that there's "a bit more choice" in the sequel, but it remains linear overall.
