MindsEye Layoffs

Some kind of comeback attempt for MindsEye could be on the cards, following the game's dismal launch on PS5 and other platforms last month.

This is according to a new report from IGN, which paints a bleak picture of what's going behind the scenes at developer Build A Rocket Boy.

Sources say that around 300 employees at the studio have been sent emails stating that their jobs are currently at risk. Additional emails were apparently sent to people at PlayFusion as well — a company Build A Rocket Boy bought up in 2024.

Talk of redundancies has been doing the rounds for weeks now, with the developer itself confirming that it was in the process of laying off employees in late June.

But perhaps the most eyebrow-raising part of this report is that, apparently, ex-Grand Theft Auto boss and Build A Rocket Boy CEO Leslie Benzies reckons there's scope for a MindsEye "redemption arc".

Sources claim that Benzies addressed staff just yesterday via video call, and "insisted" that the developer would "bounce back" with a "relauch" of the panned shooter.

What's more. Benzies is meant to have once again placed blame on "internal and external saboteurs" for the game's failures, having previously suggested that people were being incentivised to trash the title online.

It's obviously a very sad state of affairs, and we can't help but wonder what's actually in store for MindsEye — especially if Build A Rocket Boy is going to lay off a significant number of its developers.
