In what will probably end up being the weirdest news story of the day, The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has felt the need to post an official statement regarding some kind of ongoing scam.
Apparently, the scam in question revolves around people being invited to beta test The Witcher 4 — the highly anticipated sequel that was announced last year.
Needless to say, there is no beta test — scam or not — because the project's still fairly early on in its development. If there really were any beta rumours floating about, we'd all be wondering why we're yet to see even a glimpse of in-game footage.

"Recently, we've been getting reports from some community members that they've been invited to a beta test of The Witcher 4 — this is a scam!," The Witcher's official account proclaims.
"Should we ever organize any beta tests in the future, you will hear about it first, as always, via our official social media and websites," it concludes.
And just to be clear, this logic applies to every game out there. Always look to official websites and social media accounts if you're ever unsure of an offer's legitimacy.

I do think it's kinda funny how there's a scam going out to beta test a game that we've only seen a cinematic trailer for and that's it.
They are obviously doing this just to prevent server overload. I am gonna sign up anyways!
EA is always trying to get me to beta test their games and they are the biggest scammers of them all 😉
It's good to highlight this though, not everyone cares or knows how far games are into development as most people are casuals who just know roughly that beta testing is a thing and the Witcher 4 is a thing. It could easily catch these people out as there are a lot of Witcher fans.
Are you telling me the people who asked me for my banking info, so I can enjoy a free beta of the Witcher 4, tried to scam me?
So that explain why the installer was named really-bad-virus.exe, was so small and didn't update Direct X.
Someone’s uncle clearly works at Nintendo
Played it, deleted it because no bathing scenes.
At least I know mine is genuine, it came straight from Charlie Projekt and David Red.
@Deadlyblack just goes to show you how many people actually use common sense...
