In case you missed the news, Shuhei Yoshida, a legendary PlayStation executive, is leaving the company after 31 years. It's unclear what his next steps will be when he leaves in January, but what's absolutely clear is that everyone adores the man.
With the announcement came a tidal wave of love and support for Shu, with developers, publishers, and individuals all tipping their respective hats.
Looking through the quote reposts and replies to the official announcement is very heartwarming. There are too many to share them all, but here are some we spotted from notable people and teams.
There are plenty more posts just like these from people in the industry, all echoing the same sentiment: Shu is a legend. Indeed, we've met him once or twice at gaming events, and he's as kind and enthusiastic as everyone says.
It might be a little funny to get sentimental about a corporate exec handing in his notice, but it should be clear from the above that Shu has garnered an enormous amount of respect and admiration from those in and outside the industry. His genuine passion for games and jolly demeanour have made him one of PlayStation's best-known and best-loved public figures.
A huge congratulations to Yoshida-san on an incredible run at PlayStation, and we wish you all the best for the future.

Legend! Big loss for Playstation. Congrats and Good luck with your future endeavours Mr. Yoshida. ππΌ
him right there, is a goat!!
This man stood on a stage at E3 2014 and introduced Bloodborne. Enough said. PlayStation Legend.
Absolute legend. Just a man with a passion for games, gaming and creative endeavours he always retained the joy despite 31 years.
@Macpac33 and not only that - he platinumed it (Bloodborne). Wonder how many games Hermen or Jim platinumed... ever. He was the story of the right person being in the right place, almost entirely by accident... but actually made the role, and the legend, by just being himself. And loving gaming.
A legend πββοΈπββοΈ
Tons of devs as well PS fans loves and respect him.
If there's no Shuhei Yoshida, PS probably wouldn't get Stellar Blade, Rez Infinite, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, and many many games.
sigh...i hope Shuhei already prepare his successor because i don't think PS will have supports from plenty of devs especially indies if they rely on Hermen leadership.
Shuhei, if you're reading this.. I love you man. Seriously. Xx
I'm gonna miss him so much he has such a beautiful passion for the medium he's just a legend wishing him all the best ^__^β€οΈ
Just an awesome dude. He always had a great eye for talent and proved that yet again just this year with Stellar Blade. Easily one of my favorite PS5 games so far.
Thanks for all your great work Shu!
Did see among the mass outpourings of tweets from indies & outside third parties,to the current & former Playstation staff one from Greg Rice (formerly business manager of Double Fine before),who joined the Indies team headed up by Shu Yoshida. In tweeting his well wishes to him Shu responded "it's all in your hands now Greg", which might be a sign he'll be taking over.π€
That said,he'd been overseeing a separate Indie initiative called Day of the Devs but that seems separate from Greg Rice's Playstation duties,so who knows!
But agree, much like a Shawn Layden, that they could nominate old obscure titles just as easily as they could a big AAA title across each gen showed their passion was about games being fun as much as their roles were to make blockbusters. That random people could hit Shu up on twitter & ask what he's playing or recommended in sales & it wasn't corporate speak "engagement"....
One only has to look at the PS Blog,or PS Social channels or where the likes of Herman Hulst etc., avoid any interaction unless it's some high end publication ala WIRED etc. (And has gone into hiding just about since Concord).
Shuhei is going to be a very hard act to follow.
Shuhei yoshida and shawn layden early ps4 era is the most fun playstation era ever, it's like playstation can't do wrong in that era, the right attitude, the right games, the right indie, the right exclusives, man it was a blast π
He said he still want to be in the gaming industry. I hope he can start something of his own. He will leave big shoes to feel. Congrats on your next endeavor.
Sony is definitely worse off without him.
He was the last good one from the golden age of Playstation. The last person in that company who knew what makes videogames fun.
@wiiware Both of them should be CEO of Playstation, not the joke we have today. Two amazing people who actually love and play videogames.
@PuppetMaster It isn't Hermen's job dude. His is to manage Playstation Studios. Greg Rice will probably take over the indie initiative
I fear the future of Playstation, even more now...
Shu should make an epic return, four year later, to the gaming industry, by becoming the CEO of SEGA, and release the Dreamcast 2, with WAY higher specs, than PS6 and next Xbox, at a price of only $399.
Well we can all dream, can't we
@wiiware
Yeah, it felt like a return to the amazing PS2 era.
If we only knew, how the next one would end up...
Jack tretton.shawn layden.shuhei yoshida.playstation legends are retiring.its crazy.word up son
Master class at his job. The world of Playstation needs to figure out it's next Yoshi, next Layden and next real influential leadership. Bunch of c suite nutsacks at the helm now. Herman is just a turd compared to those before him. Not gonna lie, that devolver video got me right in the feels
@Steel76 get out of my head lol. The dreamcast 2.....sigh....launch title shenmue 4/crazy taxi 2/ skies of arcadia and dynamite cop Remastered lolol
@Steel76 @Shrek_Realista I never understand what the higher-up at sony where thinking back then, "Hey ps4 is a huge success, let's fire (or lower their position) the creative people that make the console successful and change it with someone else".
I really though ps5 era will be like ps4 era with some improvement. Like more exclusives, refund feature for psn, better games for psplus, etc, basically just copy steam features and be more consumer friendly than before. Oh well, I guess this is what happens when corporations didn't get a good competitor (looking at you microsoft xbox).
Wonderful messages here, all of them.
Also I completely forgot about both Yoshida's appearance in Super Time Force Ultra and the game itself. I need to play that game again.
Absolute legend. Will be sorely missed. Massive blow to PlayStation!
