Recurrent revenue. I would guess if they really wanted to be greedy they'd keep new characters behind season packs. Depends on the competition because SF6 is doing free character drops while MK1 is doing paid character drops.

Edit: turns out SF6 also charges for characters. buy an annual character pass to get all 4. ugh.

@get2sammyb this is from Harada himself and whatever anyone thinks of microtransactions, the fact is they are necessary now for a game to be supported going forward. I don't mind as long they're reasonably priced and I'll be playing this game for a long time

@carlos82 If a game like Tekken 8 has 2.5x the budget of Tekken 7 no wonder every gaming company has long term growth fears. Because the selling price hasn't changed especially when taking into account inflation.

@breakneck and realistically they can't raise the prices anymore as people simply won't/can't pay it. There needs to be a major rethink in how gaming goes forward

@breakneck This is exactly why I don’t understand people whinging about £70 games. The RRP of a game 10 years ago was £60 so we have seen about a 16% increase in a decade. Here in UK over the same time period food increased around 40%, electricity 60%, petrol 40%-60%, clothing 35%. If we were saddled with the rising costs of development combined with realistic inflation we should probably be buying £100+ new games by now.

As much as everyone hates paid customisation and microtransactions they are here to stay unless we want to be paying even more for new games.

@breakneck Its news to me that SF6 provides pree character drops.
That said it does allow you to earn 1hr free character trail passes.
Plus they appear for free in world tour (where you can earn the moves to make an approximation of the character)

In hindsite SF5 was probably the best model after all (despite all the criticism at the time)
But Id say in a realistic microtransaction/season pass world. SF6 is still leading the pack when it comes to fairness for now I guess.

Untill someone releases all characters free for a game (probably limited to certain modes.....eg just character combo trail and offline practice mode or something)

@Burntbreadman I was wrong you have to buy a character pass to get access to 4 characters.

It's sad but true gaming I more expensive than ever those servers that allow online play cost tens of thousands of dollars a month to maintain hell even more depending on certain factors

Keep the classic suits paid but have all the customization items free and i could turn a blind eye.

@Burntbreadman Nah SF6 is near MK1 levels, it has a small roster, sod all skins for the roster and expects you to pay nearly a £100 to give every character an extra skin. Tekken 8 even with the cash shop is the best of the 3 big fighters in content and fairness, the MTX are also far cheaper then MK1 and SF6 as well.

I'll wait and see how this all plays out before criticizing it but I can't stand the way Capcom has handled things with SF 6. I really hope this isn't similar.

I'd pay for Tekken Bowl if they bring it back, but I'm guessing that might be out of the question since it was in 7.

Those Tekken 4 costumes look very tempting.
