Tekken 8 PS5 PlayStation

Tekken 8's upcoming Tekken Shop will include both paid and free content, Bandai Namco has confirmed, with the premium stuff using a currency called (creatively) Tekken Coins. The Tekken Shop will be refreshed monthly, and the developer insists the move is more about keeping the competitive fighter fresh with customisation items than for grubby monetary reasons. Still, there's no reason why it can't be both.

Announced during a recent Tekken Talk Live stream (thanks, MP1st), chief producer Yasuda Esports announced some of the features coming to the Tekken Shop, apparently trying to get out in front of any backlash: "So, we hear that some people have some kind of allergic reaction when they hear 'shop', but it's more trying to update the game and keep it fresh with new customisation items."

Mr Esports suggests that the format will follow that of Tekken 7 and, like the previous title: "We tried to refresh the game and to provide a better experience overall, rather than just trying to make money off of those individual items."

Do you believe Bandai Namco is setting up the Tekken Shop to keep the game fresh, to get that sweet, sweet microtransaction money, or both? Let us know in the comments section below.
