Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Pulling Inspiration from PS5, PS4 Greats 1

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has looked to two of PS5 and PS4’s greatest ever open world RPGs to help shape its sandbox: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the Horizon franchise – comprising, of course, of Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel Horizon Forbidden West. Co-director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the tidbit in an interview with French publication FF Dream at Paris Games Week earlier this month, although Games Radar spotted the quotes and shared them online.

In addition to the aforementioned, Hamaguchi explained that the development team learned a lot about sandbox games from its work on Final Fantasy 15, which obviously saw Noctis and his band of brothers driving around the desert in an enormous finned car. While the release has its fair share of critics, we actually really enjoyed the road trip vibes of that particular title a lot.

With the anticipated next chapter in Square Enix’s remake saga due out on 29th February, we’re probably due an updated look at the title fairly soon. Are you excited to see how Square Enix continues to evolve Cloud’s story? Bring out your Buster Sword in the comments section below.
