Sony's latest firmware update for PS5 is here, and it's the one that's been in a beta testing phase since the end of July. System software version 23.02-08.00.00 is available to download and install now for all users, and it's a big one, adding support for Dolby Atmos, larger capacity SSDs, and much more. Beep already deactivated.
just tried the new beep sound volumes and they sound a bit muffled. they also don't sound that much lower than the standard tone.
Can't wait to blast me some Baldur's Gate 3 music and action via Dolby Atmos 😁
Also: BEEP!
Beep is staying on, be so weird without it. Still no way of buying avatars on PS5 and still no PS Stars on our PS5. Was looking to buy a new avatar (MGS1 Foxhound avatar) on my PS5 last week for almost 10 mins before a quick Google search realising there is no way of buying new avatars on PS5. Good job still have my PS4 kicking around
I'll be honest, I'm keeping that beep on. It's been part of my life since I got a PS3 at launch — I think I'd miss it if it wasn't there.
Sweet! Finally my in-ceiling speakers going to get some use outside of 4K bluray movies.
Now this UK heatwave is over too! time to move my PS5 back to the home cinema from the living room, to test out Atmos on PS5 games.
Hopefully the 3D audio through my speakers will also make PSVR2 games more immersive.
The feature we really want (keep the beep) is to be able to set the 'on light' to the pure blue you get on boot up, and limit the white to boot up. I'm genuinely sick of the white light, it's crap 😅
The blue light makes the PS5 look genuinely nice, it makes use of the modern PS branding colours of black white and blue all together in synergy, and I'm still shocked they went for the white light as the main one 😓
Still no folders🙄
@Quintumply Beep staying on? Yes.
Turning beep down? Also yes
The one feature I want more than anything is to be able to increase the stick's deadzone (as you can with the Dualsense Edge) which would prevent drift on a couple of my controllers.
It's maddening as when I plug them into a PC for diagnosis they have LESS relative drift than my PS4 ones, but the PS4 ones don't drift on PS4 as the system has a larger deadzone, whereas the PS5 ones do drift.
@Ravix Light off in standby mode is what we really need, well that and folders.
Also something I found recently, they need to add the ability for the system to update all installed games automatically, not just the ones on the main screen
Not a single thing on that list useful for me. Ah well, honestly not much I would change in the firmware anyway. Apart from being able to unlock hidden trophy descriptions for all game at system level.
I don't like the clattered mess that is the PS5 UI and the painfully slow storage menu but there is only one feature I want:
Check for updates and update ALL GAMES regardless of where they are installed.
Why is this so hard? Steam does it automatically and Xbox has an option to do it.
Wake me up when Themes are added.
No way I’m ever getting rid of the beep! I’ve an emotional attachment that means within a few short moments of hearing that iconic sound, I’ll be mentally stimulated by playing a great game. It’s always been like my PS3/4/5 saying ’Hey man, I’m here. What are we playing?’
@Yusuo @belmont
I'm with you both, I have looked many times for the feature we had on the PS4 where it would automatically log on at set times during the night (or whenever you set it) to check for updates. Never had to turn a game on and wait for an update as it was done in the middle of the night, PS5 should have done this out of the blocks or have I missed that option somewhere?!?
@themightyant What happens when the PS Portal has stick drift? £200 down the drain??
Was hoping Stars integration was coming. The app is busted for me now. Crashes whenever I try to open the collectibles page. Phone and app are both fully updated.
Yusuo wrote:
Wait. What? When did they add that feature? Annoys the hell out of me that all installed games don’t automatically update. Definitely switching that on.
@Quintumply dont be scared.. gove it a try mate..
Deactivating the beep should be punishable by law
A better way to use discord would have gone a long way IMO.
@The_Pixel_King
It’s always been like my PS3/4/5 saying ’Hey man, I’m here. What are we playing?’
Love this soooo much!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The post beep serves a useful fuction, and I like to hear the single beep to confirm no issues, so I wont be switching that off.
As someone with a Dolby Atmos sound bar, the converstion of Tempest audio to Atmos is a nice add for me.
Im still astonished the rewards system is not to be seen. I like the ps app and use it there, but its daft you cant use it on your own console! When I looked the other day, there was enough points for me to get £30 psn credit, so I got BG3 for £27, bargain! Dont sleep on checking the rewards.
I’m still just waiting for a meaningful update to trophies.
Setting the beep to low seems like the best comprise. It's an indicator, but not one I have to hear across the other side of the house
@belmont This is my #1 wanted feature as well. There's no reason why it shouldn't be there by now as it is also a feature on the PS4. It is quite annoying that you have to start a game to get it back on the Home screen in order to update it because you can only check for updates on games that are on the Home screen. Of course those are also the only ones that automatically update as well.
@The_Pixel_King I think it's simply because the PS4 has its background download chip (flabby 5 can only download one thing at once ffs!) and a significantly better UI/OS.
BTW, have they fixed the auto-switch-back-on-when-turning-TV-to-different-HDMI-after-you've-turned-it-off yet?
I will decrease the beep volume to PS4/PS3 levels if I can. I was expected the PS5 'Slim' to have an air horn to indicate when it was powered on so it'd be a bit quieter than The Tub o' Lard starting up.
My wish for the next big update: Setting the headphones volume without pausing the game. Just by holding the mute button and pressing R1 for higher or L1 for lower volume.
The beep is great, it’s a traditional and must remain.
How about rest mode not being a bright nightlight? I would love to have it in at night for downloads, but it’s close to where I sleep so I can’t have it on at night. It’s insane the bright light is mandatory.
Love the beeping beep.
Very excited to give my powerful in-ceiling speakers a workout with Atmos. It’s going to be make PS5 game audio even more immersive.
@Quintumply : PushSquare planning to make an article with games that support 3D audio / Dolby Atmos? Would be nice to have a list. 😃
Would really appreciate a deadzone setting for the sticks at the system level, but I'm sure they'd rather have another $70 😔
I'm waiting for the day you can back up saves to USB!
Using Atmos seems to have fixed the audio lag between dualsense and my soundbar in games like Quake etc 👍👍
The thing I haven't seen anyone talk about that is a gamechanger for me:
In game library, you can now search for games just within your game library.
Nice. Receiver, TV, Earbuds are all Dolby Atmos.
I had to pay $15 to enable Dolby Atmos on my Gaming PC so it would take advantage of my Livingroom set up. Free update is good on PS5.
Finally I can use atmos on my ps5 😃
Sony PLS Get rid of the card system. Give us Folders.
Sincerely: Everyone
Ok. So now that I have Atmos. What games are compatible?
Anyone know if the Sony Pulse 3D Headset supports Atmos?
You can get rid of the beep or just quiet it down - I turned it down.
Don't sleep on that assist controller feature - my kid and I played through parts of Inside with that, swapping who was controlling the character seamlessly (at least, when we weren't intentionally messing with each other). The second controller doesn't get haptic feedback or trigger resistance, which is a small disappointment, but it's a lot faster than handing off a controller and works great.
Still no themes or folders...
OK I just remember the other bizarre thing: you cannot back up PS5 saves in a USB!!
Lovely! Finally got Dolby Atmos for my TV 🥰
They won't bring back folders I think for 2 reasons.
1. Not enough people used them on PS4
2. It would likely cause performance issues on the main page, having all those apps.
You can now muste or adjust the volume of the PS5's beep sound when turning it on or off or putting it in rest mode. Go to Settings > System > Beep Sound.
I will definitely not muste the beep!
Wish there was an option to turn all the cards off. They are clutter to me. I also want the games library icon on the far left. Plus some updates to the sort feature in the library tab. Let me delete the PS4 cross gen games to where it shows me that the PS5 version is installed. Take a few extra button clicks out of the Ui and they have a solid winner. I don’t care about folders or themes but i hope those come for those that want them.
Does anyone here use a SSD more than 2TB? That’s what I have, while it’s less than half full. (My stock internal also has around 200GB free.)
I have around 30 games in my PS5 (PS4 games included) library.
@sd7232 i'm pretty happy with my 2tb , however i am getting close to needing to remove some things to install new games though. i kind of wish i had held out to use a bigger one though.
@SoulChimera
I think @Yusuo was saying he recently discovered that problem and would like for that to be addressed. I would, too.
@Ravix The thing is, since BG3 doesn't support 3D audio, there will be no difference between choosing Dolby or Dolby Atmos when playing it.
Loïc Coulthier, senior sound designer at Playstation Studios, confirmed it :
